Not another one of these rubbish articles, we all know why crossplay isn't commonly integrated. It's a good business decision on Sony's part and doesn't make their console any worse off without it, the same can be said last gen when Microsoft refused crossplay. As long as Sony gives me what I want, then I'll happily buy the console, the services (if I like them) and the games.
Is there anyone who isn't a Xbox fanboy that actually cares for crossplay?...
They're a business, they're in it to make money, PC probably hardly cuts into their profits if at all, they don't have to do jack squat in the name of what you think is "consumer friendly". Microsoft wouldn't do last gen either.
@Valhura,
About one or two, FYI, people can have many friends, even if your only semi-social, you sound as if you don't have many.
I plan to eventually own a Switch at some point, I'm just waiting to see how things pan out (I don't want it to have the same fate as the Wii U).
I'm playing the waiting game too, had to RMA my RX 480 (same thing happened to my RX 380), so I'm making do with a 1050ti for now. I'm thinking of waiting for Volta as well, even though I don't really want to support nvidia.
I really wanted AMD to make a 1080ti competitor, but I wasn't impressed by the Vega launch and this guard seems to have crazy draw backs like the temps and power consumption (I wasn't happy with Vega's initial power consumption).
I actually don't think there's any point debating it because it's obvious why it's not happening, I don't blame them.
All my friends own PS4s and those that own Xones, game mostly on their PS4s, so I get no benefit from crossplay.
Why would they help their competition? I strongly doubt this will ever happen.
@DarkZane, @Darth72
What they say and what they actually do are different things, Sony/Microsoft probably didn't intend for the last gen to last as long as it did, it just kind of worked out that way. Possibly due to Sony's slow start and finding it's feet and Microsoft just petered out towards the end (they were probably ready for a new gen before Sony was).
What about the developers who have to make games for these consoles? You cannot compare a phone/tablet/pc market to a console market. Personally I only upgrade my phone every 4 or 5 years, I only build new PC every 4 or 5 years, I am not buying a new console every year or every other year.
I think people are foolish to buy a new iphone or tablet every year when the performance jump would have felt more satisfying if they waited a few years at least (and it would save them ...
I think your too optimistic, we can barely do 4k, I own a 4k TV and 4k Blu-ray player, there's still a premium for stuff like 4k blu-rays and the selection is still more limited then DVDs or ordinary blu-ray. And 4k streaming is hard on your internet connection when it is available (look at how much Netflix and Youtube offer in 4k). I can't see 8k being the norm, if anything 4k will cement it's position like people have been expecting the last couple of years.
Sony learnt their lesson on price last gen, and this gen, Microsoft should have learnt it with the release of the Xone. I kinda get the feeling their repeating this mistake with the XoneX, but it's hard to tell at this point with no numbers to look up.
Even on a vanilla PS4, games like Horizon Dawn look amazing, so I can only imagine what it'd look like on the Pro (I won't be buying a Pro).
Anyway, I imagine Microsoft and Sony already have ro...
@MegamanXXX,
I know what you mean, everyone wants bragging rights for their consoles of choice, "we have the POWAH!" But consoles are more of a budget solution for gaming. Your guaranteed to be able to run that generation's games on that console for so many years with little fuss.
You can get a RX 580 8gb for $500 (technically it should be lower, but crypto mining, keep in mind my figures are in AUD), and a AMD 8 core processor for $400. Gi...
It helps that since all the consoles are very computer-like, it's easier to develop for them, unlike when we had the cell processor for PS4. If things remain like this, then I don't think it'll give developers too much grief when we jump to the next gen. I still think there's some room for optimization on all the consoles at this point, despite being under-powered compared to recent tech. It's impressive how much more developers could squeeze out of the last generation'...
It'll sell ok, but I don't think they'll have shortages, as for Nintendo, they always have shortages with hardware for some reason, some people think they plan it that way.
Yep, it'll sell similar to the PS4 Pro at best.
@PCrising,
Are you sure there's no such thing as bad press? I'm pretty sure the initial Xboxone announcement was pretty damaging at the time. Bad press can turn people, especially the less informed away from purchasing a product.
@nativegoku,
What in the world are you talking about? There's so much wrong with your comment I have no idea where to begin.
Personally I don't see either mid-gen refresh being worth it if you already own one of the vanilla versions. If you were looking to buy a PS4/Xbox because you don't own one then the oneX or the Pro is the best choice.
This year and last year we had quite a few leaps or jumps in PC technology, so it's very possible to have worthwhile improvements in 2 or three years.
I'd actually argue Microsoft is more self-serving since they're clearly not listening to their customers and fixing the area's xbox is lacking in (they have the money to pay someone to develop new IPs, seriously).
