Well apart from Switches duality as a handheld/console, there's nothing outstanding about it. Personally I like to consider it a reboot of that gen.
Can we just say the Switch was a reboot of the 8th gen Nintendo consoles?
Good thing Microsoft releases hard numbers on a regular basis...

When you think about it, Sony almost did everything wrong last gen and had such a bad start, it only evened out for them towards the end of the gen. As for Microsoft, they made most of the bad choices at the beginning of this gen (It's crazy they repeated some of Sony's mistakes like the price point).
I don't think they'll gain significant traction now because they won't reap any of the fruits of their labor until the end...

To be fair though, who actually bought a Wii U? That's pretty much the only reason I don't mind Wii U ports being on the Switch, but there's a few a really wanted to see that haven't happened (Xenoblade Chronicles X).

After playing remasters like secret of Mana, I realise I forgot what it's like to not have the game holding your hand all the time.
I find clunky controls or camera more of a hindrance but that's just me.
Physicals? Those are less common these days and I do love those physicals.
It's pretty amazing how they accomplished so things despite being handicapped by weak hardware or the fact tech was still maturing then. I really do feel we're living in an age where innovation will be a rarity.
Need I remind everyone how much I enjoy the secret of Mana remake warts and all despite people's dislike of it?

You know what Goldeneye has that most modern games don't? 4-player split screen. So not all modern games are better than older games. Some older games had great stories and characters and were crazy imaginative. Modern games generally less so because budgets are hitting Hollywood size now and everyone wants ridiculous sales o...

Gpu performance had stagnated for so long and Nvidia doesn't really have any competition so PCs aren't advancing as quickly as you think. 8 core 16 threads only just became commonplace, otherwise we'd still be stuck with 4cores and threads on the high end.
Why don't you own a pc?
I don't know why people are in such a rush for a new console, if they want to upgrade all the time they'd own PCs. The strong point of consoles is your guaranteed to not upgrade for 5 years plus (I hope I get somewhat close to 10, 8 would be acceptable for me).
This gen is definitely only hitting it's stride now, especially the ps4 and Switch (not so much the Xone). I'll be upset if it feels like they cut this gen short, it's not like any developer is severely limited at the moment,we're still getting some impressive games.
People don't get this but it won't be 4k 60fps, that's horribly unrealistic unless we wait for another 10 or so years (don't forget how long gpu performance stagnated over the years).
It won't be cutting edge that's for sure, the Xone and ps4 (and now the Switch) are under powered for their time. All the companies will be looking at that price performance ratio, if it's too expensive it won't sell.
Wouldn't you be looking more so at the ryzen apus rather than just the cpus? I think it's unlikely they'll use dedicated GPUs but you never know for sure what's planned for next gen.
Ryzen's fairly cheap compared to the Intel equivalent though, 8c/16t are fairly cheap to buy now for that reason.
