Floppy Discs < Hard Discs < Cartridges < CDs < DVDs < HD DVD < Blu Ray

to me, it's really rather simple.

try fitting Ninja Gaiden (the original X Box game), on a floppy disc.

you can't? why is that? wait, wait, don't tell me...um, not enough room? DING DING DING! correct.

try fitting Grand Theft Auto III (PS2 version), on a NES cartridge.

you can't? why is that? you know the answer to this.

i actually *AM concerned about content being cut from 360 games.

see, with the 360 having a higher install base than the PS3, and therefore the lead platform for most multi-platform titles, i'm very much concerned that game vital features will be cut from a title all together, and the PS3 version will be affected, due to the 360's lack of a higher medium for game storage.

i don't care about loosing visual fidelity, but what i do care about is if, say, a two playe...

you seem to be missing what i'm trying to imply.

i'm talking about a game unlike *ANY OTHER out there.

a game that doesn't just fit into the standards we've set for ourselves these past 6 or 7 years with the PS2 and original X Box.

remember, Crackdown is a 2nd generation 360 game. GTA IV is also a second generation game.

i'm talking about a *MASSIVE creative undertaking to truly push the boundaries of what a format like Blu Ray can d...

this is old news, but it's alright with me. Lair and Warhawk are taking my money for August.

so Stranglehold can cozy up with Heavenly Sword for September.

i'm already preparing to save up the money for the blitz of games hitting the PS3 from August to December, multi-platform and exclusive alike.

do we know how big the areas in Mass Effect are?

what *I'M talking about, is each and every planet in the game (5 in all) are as large as Oblivion. not just areas that give the illusion of being larger than they are, like in Rogue Galaxy, and the KOTOR games, but imagine exploring a planet as large as Oblivion, then heading to *ANOTHER planet, just as large as Oblivion, with all new items, quests, and resources to exploit?

the number of hours you could sink into ...

exclusive or not, what does it matter?

the fact that the PS3 *HAD some games to play at all makes me one happy PS3 owner.

people seem to have this misconception that *EVERYONE owns a 360, and have therefore played all of these games ages ago, on the 360.

i do *NOT, own a 360, however, so when i see games like Oblivion, Rainbow Six Vegas, and The Darkness appearing on the PS3, i'm glad.

i know the exclusives are on their way (Ninja Ga...

1.) the games, sure: we know this; which system has the games you want to play.

2.) extra features: things like built in Wi Fi, web browers, built in Blu Ray, memory stick readers, compatability with other devices in your home.

3.) reliability: will this system break down on me within a year? this one is very important, especially if you're considering dropping $400-$600 on *ANYTHING.

i chose a PS3 first over *ALL other consoles because of *EVERY f...

sadly, the screenshots for the game look *TERRIBLE.

they're too blurry.

this is not a fault of the actual game, i'm sure.

judging from the screens, it doesn't really look any different from the PS3 version. at all.

i'd care about online, if it wouldn't ultimately turn out to be a laggy mess.

i had a lot of fun with VF5 on my PS3, but i've since traded it in for Ninja Gaiden Sigma. circle of life, and all that.

demos take *TIME to create.

it's not like they just grab a chunk of game code and send it out to consumers.

it has to be coded for demo purposes. things have to be rewired and written (ever played a demo of an RPG, and a characters spouts off "this feature isn't available in this demo, but will be in the final build!" that has to be coded into the demo), then it has to be tested to make sure it's working properly.

the main problem, is tha...

what people fail to consider are the ramifications of this limition to *OTHER genres.

many people are listing games like FFVII being on multiple discs back in the day, and Gears of War being on 1 DVD9, even Oblivion (i'll touch on Oblivion in a minute), but what about *SANDBOX games?

what about non-linear RPGs?

can you imagine making it to the second island in Liberty City (hypothetical GTA game, by the way), only to have to switch discs, then you ...

a lot of Wii games *NOT made by Nintendo have had this issue with motion controls as well.

think of it this way, for the past ten years, we've been playing with dual analog sticks.

do any of you older gals and gents remember when we had to change from the digital pad to the analog stick?

i admit, that i didn't really play with the analog stick on the dual shock controller until i was *FORCED to by games like Ape Escape, and the PS2.

wrong on both accounts.

the PS3 only has a 60gig $500 unit available at the moment. the 80gig doesn't go on sale until sometime next month.

i haven't seen anything confirming the $50 price drop for *ANY of the three X Box 360 SKUs, so, for now, they are still priced at $299, $399, and $479. the only price cut i've seen is for the HD DVD add on, which is $179.

so the comparrison is:

60gig PS3 with Memory Stick readers, HDMI output, bu...

i didn't call you an MS troll.

i said you come off as a bit of an MS troll, because of your undulating praise for the company, while dismissing the merits of other consoles. i never said that you *WERE a troll. big difference. i reserve the "troll" moniker for people on this site like The Mart. i don't lump people in that category because they disagree with me.

thank you very much for that absurdly informative post!

i've never gotten an indepth reason for why expensive or cheap HDMI cables don't matter, just the broad strokes.

i may not have understood your A post, but your B post was a great analogy.

thanks a lot!

the cable does *NOT matter in a digital signal, as it's a *DIGITAL signal.

my roommate has fancy monster HDMI cables hooked up to his 46" 1080p Samsung.

i have my $8.99 cables from Newegg hooked up to my 40" 720p Samsung.

aside from the resolution differences of our TVs, when i hook up his cable to my TV, and my cable to his TV, there is *NO DIFFERENCE in quality.

both cables produce a sharp, clear picture.

+ bubbles for you *AND DJ.

the 360 has amazing potential to branch out, but then you have to wonder if the core 360 audience is really interested in a game like Little Big Planet, or Echocrome, or even services like Home.

you'd think "no," judging by the response a lot of the 360's more hardcore community have to those few products and services.

MS knows it's audience, and it's certainly catering to it's audience (which are hardcore gamer...

i got my HDMI cable for $8.99 at Newegg.com.

sure, if you want a $60 HDMI cable, feel free to get one, but there are much cheaper alternatives.

and the Playstation 3 is $500. not $600. the $600 system is a bundle deal, and i'm sure the stand alone 80gig PS3 will be $500 without Motorstorm included.

while i understand your point, there are some of us out there that would much rather pay the full sum, get the complete experience in one painful go, th...

i would have chosen Uncharted, or Ratchet and Clank as the number 5 trailer instead of GTA IV, not because GTA IV is bad (i'm pumped for it), but because i think Ratchet and Uncharted are really pushing the PS3, and their respective games look like loads of fun.

other than that, i agree with all of the trailers for the most part, though i don't care to put them in any particular order, as i plan on owning every single last one, so it matters little which ones i thought were bet...

"Every time I write about the comparative price of the Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3, people assault me for not mentioning the PS3's Blu-ray capability (I can't see why I should -- it matters not a whit to the games people play on the system)"

well, this matters quite a bit to this PS3 owner, because i do more with my console than just play games.

if you want a gaming console, there *ARE alternatives, by all means, buy a 360 or a Wii, but why condem...
