when people see GT5 Prologue, they stop and stare. it's a showpiece, and a good game.
it's more substantial than a demo, in that it has 60 cars (more than what you got with Motorstorm, for example, and each with their real world handling and physics), and it has 5 or 6 different tracks (again, almost on par with Motorstorm), and online.
for a system that has been out for 15 months, it already has an ample library of quality exclusives. i also didn't have to put multi-...
that list wasn't really that good.
PS3 list:
10: Resistance - a year later and still one of the best online FPS games on the PS3 next to Call of Duty 4.
9: Motorstorm - thanks to a healthy dose of downloadable content, this is one of the best off-road racers on the PS3.
8: Folklore - the PS3 is slim on RPGs, but this action/rpg from Gamers Republic is beautiful in atmosphere, creature design, and music, and has a fun, addicting play mechanic...
the publisher retains IP rights, but that's entirely my point, Microsoft DID NOT obtain IP rights for Mass Effect, Bioshock, and even Gears of War. meaning that, at any time, the franchises could go multi-platform.
Sony, on the other hand, prefers to obtain IP rights. Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud, Jeanne D'Arc, and White Knight Story were all developed by Level 5. Sony doesn't own Level 5, but they DO OWN the IP rights to the aforementioned games.
they understand that it...
owned by Microsoft.
i think a lot of you guys are confused as to what a publisher actually does.
a publisher will put up the money to help develop a game, or pay for the advertising of the game, when the developer can't afford to undertake such a thing.
if they don't actually *OWN the IP of the game, then the IP owners can do whatever they want with the game.
Bioware OWNS Mass Effect.
if they want to bring it to the Playstation ...
not a bad list, but not the quintessential list, either.
i'm torn between Symphony of the Night and MGS as my favorite PS1 games.
as for favorite games of all time, it's a tie between Symphony and Chrono Trigger. i've beat those games so many times, and yet, if they are in the system, i can't help but play them (of course, i have Symphony installed on my PS3, so it's always there, tempting me...).
Bioshock - great game
Gears of War - not my cup of tea, but a good time
Mass Effect - a good, but technically flawed game
Halo 3 - not much to say about this, really.
and, what else?
Dead Rising? mediocre, honestly
Lost Planet? ditto
Crackdown? i like this game, but it's honestly not pushing any envelopes. it's a glorified 3rd person shooter with really high jumping, and the ability to throw heavy sh*t around.
Bomberman: Act...
because Microsoft hasn't won two console generations in a row like Sony and Nintendo have, and every "strategy" Microsoft has used this generation they've reneged on at some point:
"HDMI isn't necessary this generation."
(then they release a 360 model with HDMI built in)
"You'll never see 1080p games this generation."
(after Sony releases a handful of 1080p, and 60fps games, they make the 360 upscale to 1080p)
&q...
i am a hardcore gamer (i've been playing video games since i was 6 years old in 1985 when the NES came to America).
i'm an informed consumer.
i am getting Grand Theft Auto IV on my Playstation 3.
why?
simple, really.
i've been playing GTA games on my Playstation consoles since GTA on the PS1.
from GTA through to Vice City Stories, i've been playing the series on Playstation machines.
to me, it makes se...
or maybe ignore, is that SONY OWNS THE PLAYSTATION 2.
as long as the PS2 is selling, Sony is making money.
each PS2 sold is just another customer that, at some point in time, will probably upgrade to a Playstation 3 once PS2 titles start to become slim, and their favorite PS2 series start to come to the PS3 also (ie Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, God of War, etc).
the X Box 360 doesn't have the X Box building that future fanbase. the Playstati...
is that Sony actually *OWNS their IPs.
from what i've seen, MS is content to just *LET Epic, 2K, and Bioware keep the Gears of War, Bioshock, and Mass Effect IPs, respectively, and settle for a release on the console, not exclusivity (there's always a chance that later games in the series can go multi-platform). if Microsoft *OWNED the IPs of Gears, Bioshock, and Mass Effect, that would be three rather fine feathers in their cap. sure, for now, the sequels are exclusive, but they...

SOCOM: Confrontation; Confirmed for THIS YEAR
a lot of great stuff is coming in 2008, and it's been confirmed. while release dates are often moving, he reiterated numerous times throughout the interview that these titles were releasing in 2008.
what i also got out of this:
Naughty Dog i...
and never once regretted it.
i enjoyed the hell out of Resistance, Motorstorm, and VF5, during slow months (which lasted from about March until August, when Warhawk finally launched), i watched Blu Ray movies, and caught up on PS2 games that i hadn't had much time to play (ie, Odin Sphere, Rogue Galaxy, FFXII; i'm *STILL playing through those games).
i've never had a dull moment with my PS3, and i never regretted my $650 investment in the system ($599 + tax; damn Los...
is one of the most brutal experiences i've had in gaming since Ninja Gaiden (the originals, and the X Box and PS3 versions), and Devil May Cry.
it's clear this guy didn't play the game on Crushing difficulty (hell, i'm doubting if he played the game on "NORMAL"), because after i beat Crushing, i had a much better appreciation for the cover system, which i *ALREADY appreciated before.
ahh, Uncharted, hot damn do i love that game. i had to force myself to *NO...
"Sony has woken up and realized that they need to change their strategy..."
*ANYONE who has been following the Playstation brand know that the very same strategy that Sony is using with the Playstation 3 is the *EXACT SAME strategy it used for the PS1, PS2, and PSP.
funny thing is, *IT WORKS EVERY TIME.
the PS1 was pimped for being a multi-media device back in 95 (i know, i was there, unlike a lot of the silly little boys and girls who popped ...
i'm not hurting to not get it on the PS3.
in either case, i have a 360, so if i was a fan of the first one, which i'm not, i'd just get the sequel for my 360.
see how simple this is when you aren't a raving fanboy fanatic, and give the other console a chance? it completely deflates stories like this, because you get to experience the games that *BOTH consoles offer, regardless of exclusivity.
but are you saying that this game is going to have, what, 700 vehicles, each with true to life handling and physics, on real world tracks?
is this game going to push the Cell Processor like no other game before it, utilizing the unique architecture, making sure the PPE, SPEs, and RSX are working *TOGETHER like they are supposed to?
like i said, i like Codemasters, but when *ANYBODY starts making claims that they will be competing with another series, red flags immedi...
it's kind of hard to ignore the fact that the Gran Turismo series has sold nearly 50 million units worldwide, firmly planting it in the "killer software" category.
not many series, in that period of time, have come close to those numbers.
the fact that poor le kill could only find *THAT issue to somehow "discredit" my long post is rather telling...
sorry, bud, but blame News for Gamers and their lack of HTML for my forced choice of caps in order to convey emphasis.
with the majority of folks on this site being dolts, they don't seem to understand subtle speaking, so heavy-handed emphasis seems to be the only way to get through to them.
until N4G allows HTML, you'll have to get used to my posts using caps for emphasis, or ignore my posts altogether. sorry about that.
to leave out the rest of Europe, and that's just my American ignorance showing, but i was referring to *ALL OF EUROPE in my post, but the UK seems to be what a large number of gamers focus on when talking about the Pal territories.
so, simple solution; replace all my UKs in your mind with PAL territories. there you go.
my point remains unchanged:
the PS3 is gaining steam *WORLDWIDE
while the X Box 360 is cooling down *WORLDWIDE (or in the ca...
is why exclusive games for the PS3 and 360 have my attention more than multi-plats. it's like the developers don't even *TRY these days.
