"damn i was hoping for N4G meltdown with a 7/10 score:( "
Total disappointment. Everyone was looking forward to a totally over the top and foaming at the mouth trashing of Killzone 2 from Eurogamer. Too bad, would have been hilarious. I think the hardcore Xbox sites are throwing in the towel on Killzone 2.
Edge probably is the last hope for a bitter and venomous review outside of blogs.
The fact that Microsoft shipped no new consoles worldwide the quarter after their stupid little 10.5 million PR stunt? It's right there in their own quarterly reports.
Microsoft likes to dump a mass of extra consoles on retailers during the holidays and then put out press releases claiming their amazing 'sales'.
The problem is that those consoles just sit there for months like when they first tried it back with the 10.5 million 'sold' BS they tried to pull. The problem of course is they end up looking like idiots when the next quarter numbers show they shipped no new consoles worldwide d...
PS3 owners have had a reason to own 1080p since day one.
Games like Ridge Racer and GT Concept were running 1080p 60fps right at launch. 1080p BluRay movies were watchable on every PS3.
There was, still actually, no reason to own a 1080p on the 360. Old 480 rez DVD movies and games were 720p and less. Even the movies downloads are heavily compressed sub 720p rez.
The PS3 is just a couple months over two years old and the game division is already making a profit. They managed to pull this off while:
* Having harddrives standard in every console
* Having WiFi standard in every console
* Introducing a brand new and expensive next gen drive technology. Both CD and DVD were mature and relatively cheap tech back in the PS1 and PS2 days respectively.
The enormous graphical power advantage the PS3 has over the 360 was hidden in the first year or two somewhat by:
* The huge number of 360 owners who are stuck with crappy old 480i TVs
* Xbox fans at sites like gametrailers playing stupid games with gaming footage and screenshots. Most egregiously when the were caught outright fabricating a game footage comparison to intentionally make the PS3 version look worse, playing games with PS3 screenshots having more image co...
That has to be a joke. That gap was blown wide open right from the launch of the PS3 with the Gran Turismo HD running at 1080p 60fps or even Ridge Racer running at 60fps in 1080p on the PS3 while the 360 could only handle 720p.
The enormous graphical power advantage the PS3 has over the 360 is now at a point with games like Killzone 2 that the gaming media can no longer pretend that the PS3 and 360 are in some sort of 'neck and neck' race over graphical power....
The poor actual in game graphics are what people are upset about.
Take away all the fancy CGI and just play the weak in game battle clips and they look not much different than Lost Odyssey.
That's a gigantic F U to gamers from SE. They went from working on an incredible next gen engine to a Capcom style lowest common denominator crossplatform engine.
And let's just be clear about what this clown who wrote this idiotic article is using as his 'standard':
Halo 3 had
* Graphics that were so bad that people were claiming before the game was released that they were all some sort of clever ruse by Microsoft and that 'teh real' graphics were going to blow everyone away when it was released
* Could not even run at the basic next gen resolution of 720p and instead could only handle 640p
First we had a gaming site edit the original Killzone 2 E3 trailer with Jack Tretton talking about Resistance running in real time and "all gameplay" in order to manufacture the disgusting "Sony lies about Killzone 2 graphics!!!"
Then we had "graphics experts" aka PC/Xbox developers all over the Net on sites like beyond3d hyping the Killzone 2 trailer graphics as so far beyond the PS3 that they wouldn't be possible unti...
