It is one of the biggest changes..... because it makes console hardware less relevant than the content now. It is like how we all use Facebook on Android but all use different phones to run that Android.
10 years from now, other hardware manufacturers will be developing much cheaper hardware, not to gain an advantage on hardware sales, but simply because they can offer the exact same games to an already large audience.

There are three major factors in this.

1 - The ability to get better deals from physical copies compared to digital copies. Stores do price cuts to offload unselling stock but digital keeps prices high and as such are seen as less value.
2 - Downloading speeds in different areas. One country can download an 8Gb game in 5 minutes, another country is facing a 3+ hour download time for the same game. The console makers build worldwide consoles but the regions are no...

The headline is misleading.... it should be "Have gamers learnt nothing?"
EA are not like many other gaming companies. They are not trying to provide excellent gaming experiences, they are just interested in making the business of milking the gamers wallets of all their cash as cosmetically pleasing as possible.
Compare games like Fortnight, PUBG or Overwatch and there you have companies that build games with a passion and want to make their games incredibly rewa...

I think you missed the point of the article by about 3 miles. He isn’t discussing what is better in terms of sales or demand, he is saying that the X1X had a bigger step up that brought him closer to satisfaction with his latest upgrade, than PS4Pro did. That regardless of sales figures, exclusives, gamer demand,etc...... that turning on a PS4Pro made him feel it was a waste of his money to buy the upgrade, compared to an X1X and its much bigger jump in performance.
To put it simply...

If Disney expect to answer one of the biggest mysteries and plot twists of such a crucial story element in the new trilogy by making people buy a publicly criticised game, it would damage the entire series of films. Not everyone wants to buy, play and sit through a console game to fine out the huge plot twist in a movie.

Ocelot07 - You do know on Overwatch you can buy almost all lootbox items with in game credits if you don’t get them in the lootboxes, and you earn credits by playing, so its almost similar to the system you are talking about.

That is crazy if true. I am addicted to, and have played Overwatch for around 2 - 3 hours a day, on average 5 days a week since it launched. I have about 1,080 hours in total across all game modes and the article is suggesting if I played that much time and effort on Star Wars I would have only unlocked a quarter of the gameplay content?

Customisations are one thing I can accept, but actual heroes and weapons and upgrades that I have paid for and yet may never get to see ...

Sadly too little too late I think.
The problem is they have focused so much on developing a console that is backwards compatible across multiple generations and yet forgot to fund for new titles. So gamers, even a lot of Xbox gamers like myself who are loyal to their Xbox, are growing bored of the same old thing.
I have downloaded every GWG title since it launched each month, and have a huge array of both original and X360 games and yet I have probably only played 3 or 4 b...

The differences are so marginal that it isn’t worth the upgrade to an X1X at all based on that video. Think it will be 2 years before it really makes use of that extra power as that video demonstration was disappointing. It shows it when the live side by side battle section is virtually impossible to notice a single difference. Screenshots are one thing but live gameplay is what matters and the improvments are hardly breathtaking to anyone that just laid down huge dollars on this expecting a ...

Day 720 BUY! Not knocking the kit, but I reckon 2 years time the price will be more reasonable and it gives MS and developers a chance to really make the content awesome. Right now, slightly better graphics or resolution don't do it for me, I want to be forced to upgrade because the X1 versions of an X1X game are seriously inferior and feel like a crappy version of the game. Once you get a Battlefield game with 128+ players and the X1 can only manage 64, or you start getting maps that are...

People that complain about needing physical games and hate downloading games need to get into the future and stop living in the past along with horse drawn carriages and believing the world is flat!
This is Microsoft seeing how Netflix is dominating the entire TV and now Movie industry and want to do the same with gaming.
And when you look at what Microsoft are doing with the lack of games for Xbox the last year or so and the lack of exclusives you see they are actually do...

I understand Sony fanboys walking around with shiny badges saying single player games work for the PS4, but the reality is, from a business sense, very much true as to what the person is saying.
The reality is that for many studios, single play makes little or no sense. Even Rockstar with GTA5 see no sense in huge investment in single player as anything other than a marketing tool. It is why EA have used Single Player in many of their games as a 4 hour long storyline to get players ...

I don't understand the issue with cross-play. Fortnite accidently turned it on for a day and allowed Xbox and PS4 players to play in-game with each other.

There is one very good reason why Sony are holding off and it comes down to lack of USP when selling Playstations.
If they jump on board to the Xbox/Windows cross-play and allow most if not all multiplayer games to be able to be cross-played with Xbox gamers and Window gamers, suddenly the Playstation is no longer an individual console that is a "must have" purchase...... but instead becomes a generic piece of hardware that connects to the Microsoft multiplayer world. <...

It is easier to develop for because the developer kit Microsoft has built makes it really simple. Sony has not offered a developer kit that does all the work for the developer and as such everything has to be converted manually. Some of the big developers have coded their own toolkits to make the process of porting to PS4 simpler (and less time consuming) in some of their tasks but the smaller independents are having to do a lot of it manually and it takes a lot of time and bugs to iron out....
