I think its time for sony to seriously consider spinning off the entertainment division. I feel as though the movies and music division would be better as its own separate entity. Except tablets and phone games have seen tremendous growth while the gaming industry as a whole has seen year on year declines for the past 4 years.
Developers have a daunting hurdle to overcome just to get publisher recognition compared to a self published tablet game. The patching and support process is streamlined and costs nothing compared to consoles too.

Games run smoother on a PC. There is a lot less screen tearing and framerate dropping on a PC of low caliber specs compared to these older consoles. I do however think that it gets carried away when someone needs 4 GTX 580 gpus in quad sli, a 6 core i7 extreme and 6 120gb SSD drive in a raid 5.

I disagree. With how fast people forgot how overpriced the 3DS was with its horrible lineup at $250 I don't think sony can afford another PS3 "price shock" repeat.
If people didn't have annual amnesia I would agree it just needs games but since people are so good at forgetting actual facts, considering value, and coming up with double standards to make the Vita appear like a losing platform Sony needs a price cut.

He was talking about year on year declines. In 2006-2008 we had record sales because of a consumer segment that Nintendo tapped into in order to bolster those sales. The author goes on to say that since the mobile platform and facebook games have boomed, those consumers have moved on and left a decline that Nintendo is responsible for. I work in IT, in my field, there are no sacred cows (companies). They all suck and all belong there. For microsoft not to be up there with google and apple just felt incorrect. I don't doubt Sony belong there either (but mostly for market reasons).
A better question is, why is microsoft not there?

A lot of those reasons don't seem to be long term causes of failure. They are challenges but lets not forget the recent weight dropped from microsoft too. Fact is that the industry is more focused on dev relations to indies and third parties. Titanfall will not have a sequel exclusive to Xbox unless Microsoft buys the IP from respawn and EA.
