Yep, no problems from me on this; there's no other way for them to fight used sales. The only alternative that seems better to me would be if the publishers offered a used/buyback service of their own. That would actually be great, they could pay you in credit towards your next game from them, and then sell the used copies to Gamestop for cash (or sell them themselves). Of course, that would require a whole new market dynamic, so I doubt we'll be seeing that any time soon.
Yeah, but is an expose a reveal or an investigation into why its not here yet? Seems like that'd be a big reveal if they were announcing it.
Okay, I'm just going to say this once instead of repeating myself over and over: To everyone saying "They've lost a sale," or, "I'm not buying this game because of this," please bear in mind that if you were buying used anyway, YOU ARE NOT A LOST SALE TO THE DEVELOPER. Used sales do NOT support the developer, therefor your opinion is VOID to them. If you were going to buy new and are not buying now out of protest, fine, power to you (even though this news wo...
No, the Always On DRM is a "trust thing", this is a, "We don't get any money unless you buy new, so please buy new" thing I think.
Would you have bought used? If so, then you're not a lost sale, and they had no reason to please you anyway. THAT'S the way they're looking at it, so your protest will only mean something if you were going to buy new, and if you were going to do that, then this wouldn't have affected you at all.
Yeah, the value goes down $15 without the pass, but Gamestop will buy it back at $40 off on the day of release. If you want to talk about devalued property, I'd look at the retailer before I fussed at the developer. Besides, they could make the online pass UNAVAILABLE to used buyers if they really wanted to. Making it available online is their attempt at letting you keep the resale value up.
@christheredhead: It's only a reward if no one else is allowed to have it? I don't get that at all. Would you argue that getting a free vacation wasn't a reward because someone else could have paid for it? And the half filled glass argument MrBeatdown makes is spot on. Adjust your mindset and you'll realize that online play is premium content used players will NEVER have unless they pay for it. THAT is your reward for buying new.
As for the fuss about gam...
I'm not really sure where to stand on this one. I honestly feel like this comes down to the developers' intentions. What prompted their decision to base the game in Juarez? Was it to stir up awareness? Was it a logical setting for the story and experience they were developing? Or was Juarez chosen specifically because of the controversy and media attention such a choice would drum up? I personally believe no subject should be taboo unless it is being used for controversy's s...
Yeah, not to troll, but my first thought at reading the title was, "...which is of course the only thing that matters to Square Enix these days." I should learn not to hate on them so much, but I just disliked FFXIII so much, its hard not to be bitter when they start talking about next-gen graphics when they have so many projects due out THIS gen that aren't done. Also, I don't get this sudden surge in "next-gen" coverage, especially from developers. Do they act...
I don't understand what you people mean by casual. That it appeals to a wide audience? Or that it attracts a lot of people that wouldn't normally game? I think a lot of the conflict here is coming from the undefined terms "hardcore" and "casual." I could put my definition here, but I don't see much point since everyone has a different one.
As to Bethesda's RPG statement, I think they've got a point. You level up stats for XP, unloc...
He's not really hinting about a Mass Effect MMO, he's just saying that Mass Effect isn't over and that it's future is bright. I thought he was pretty clear that their MMO team would be tied up for some years with Old Republic.
Personally, I'd hate to see Mass Effect go MMO. Blizzard went MMO with Warcraft, and without paying the subscription I'll never get to see how things turned out after Warcraft 3. I'm sure it would be exciting for a lot o...
I think it's just that so many people disagree with MS's attitude towards the thing. Everyone would be angry with Sony if they announced God of War 4, timed exclusive on Battlefield DLC, and then 6 titles that required the PS Move to play. Gamers are complaining because they don't want to HAVE to buy the Kinect, but they'd like the incentive to do so. Core games with features that are enhanced by the Kinect, not Kinect only titles and a single blockbuster exclusive for the ...
What will be REALLY interesting is if the God of War 4 rumors are true. Imagine, the return of Master Chief and Kratos at the same E3, just a few hours apart. I'm not sure we have the technology to cope with a spike in fan energy of that magnitude. Only thing that could top that would be Half-Life 3 being shown, but then the whole place would probably explode.
I missed the Kingdoms bit. Where did they say that was Kinekt?
Halo is Microsoft's flagship, so I'm not surprised about a fourth outing (I'm actually looking forward to seeing where they take the series), but I hope that's not the only big non-Kinekt reveal. Kinekt will be the focus I'm sure, but it'd be nice if they threw core gamers without the accessory something fun and new too.
I'd venture to guess it's because Portal 2 will be the first game to use PS3 Steam. I mean, it COULD be something bigger, but I'd reiterate that an early release day still doesn't make sense. Why spite retailers and consoles so badly after all the effort they've put into building bridges? Also, it wouldn't make sense to announce the early release the day of the release; nobody would know about it through the countdown site. Most people would just log into Steam and...
huh, intersting; or as this Watcher would say, interestin.
That would make sense. An early release on PC would hurt console hype and anger retailers, and an Episode 3 announce might take some of the hype out of Portal 2 itself (unless the announce was "Aperture Science Welcomes Guest Appearance Gordan Freeman in Portal 2!"). Steam launch on PS3 sounds reasonable and exciting enough to have a countdown. I'll put my money on that.
