Short answer? Boobs.
The Difference Between a Sony and Microsoft Exclusive = a few thousand hits on N4G
There's still money to be made selling something with the words "Tomb Raider" on the box, so Eidos is going to keep plugging away. I imagine even the worst Tomb Raiders sold better than new IP's of comparable quality.
C'mon, you know they're going to make a new one. It's a big franchise that's racked up a lot of money in the past.
Do you think co-op removes the horror aspect of the game, though? Having another person with me to save my butt in RE5 just made things a little less scary than they could've been.
Uncharted really did take over Tomb Raider's niche, didn't it? The platforming, puzzles, and combat. Difference is, Naughty Dog actually improves the gameplay features with sequels.
I'd give RE5 the edge in the graphics department, too. It brought the series to an exotic, outdoor location so it has visuals you can appreciate. You spend most of Dark Space just roaming through darkened hallways.
I think BioWare sells a bundle with all the BG games, come to think of it. They might be on DVD too, which would be a big plus. The first BG was spread out over 8 CD's...*shudder*
I'm glad that they seem to be very supportive of Mirror's Edge, too. Of the two Holiday 2008 new IP's from EA, I'm probably slightly more fond of ME. Maybe it's just because it sold worse and I've got a thing for underdogs.
I didn't find Dead Space or Resident Evil 5 especially scary. They're both closer to action than survival horror. DS did have the smoother controls, though. Inventory management was a pain in RE5, too.
Really suggest you find Baldur's Gate, or at least BG2. It blows NWN out of the water. It's more strategic. Dragon Age with less shiny graphics.
DS2 should be fun. I just hope this one explains why the health monitor is on Isaac's back, the one place he can't see it.
Weird seeing them turn into an action studio, though. Up until Dead Rising 2 was announced, they had only done baseball games. I guess they don't want to get pigeonholed into doing one genre, like some other studios.
Well, hopefully EA's got the good sense not to release it in the same week as COD. I'm pretty sure that's what happened with Mirror's Edge and COD: World at War. Did not end well.
Woolworth's still exists over in the UK? I did not know that. It's been years since I've seen one in the States.
I pretty much only played Horde mode for the game's multiplayer. Back when I first got it, there were a bunch of exploiters in the competitive mode. Still, I managed to get quite a few weeks of enjoyment out of Horde mode alone. There's a reason why so many shooters have comparable modes nowadays.
I wouldn't expect too much experimentation with a big fall release in an established franchise. Then again, EA's trying to reinvent Command and Conquer with C&C4 so who knows. The game's gonna have a big budget at any rate so it should at least be decent even if it's conventional.
The fact that DICE is handling the multiplayer is promising. The single-player's a wild card, though. I'm curious if they'll end up using the new Battlefield engine (Frostbite).
Huh. Never even heard of this one.
I wondered why Crystal Dynamics abandoned Legacy of Kain.
