I'm hyped for the singleplayer, the fact that the story seems to have actual depth and emotion (unlike various other "invade America" stories) to it is a huge plus in my books.
Here's hoping it follows through.
Black Ops is running on a different fork of the engine that Modern Warfare 2 is. Treyarch's engine has modifications that IW's engine doesn't and vice versa.
I think Black Op's engine was a step down from World at War. There were a few scenes in World at War that were pretty jaw dropping, nothing like that in Black Ops but plenty of cringe worthy scenes.

Plenty of industry experience and plenty of proven employees.
I think the game will sell well, especially since US preorders alone have already passed 200k according to Bison.
Fingers crossed it sells well enough for the studio to stay around/not merge though. Wonder what figures THQ would have in mind though, 2 million, 3 million, 6 million?

Yes, using logic and drawing from programming experience obviously means I either work for company X or am a fanboy.
People who like Modern Warfare's story will get it for that, people who like the multiplayer will get it for that reason. Why are you so angry that people enjoy a game?
And please link me to a source where a IW developer says they don't need to make a new engine for the game because people will buy it anyway.
Black Ops has dedicated servers, I don't know why people think the game doesn't. This is also why you need an Xbox Live Gold account to access just about any multiplayer feature on the 360.
Who said there are restrictions? It's all up to how the studio leads want to handle things. Call of Duty games get at least 2 years of development time, a large team can work on a Call of Duty game while a smaller team can start work on a new engine.
In the end, it's down to what the team needs to get the job done. They seem to be pros when dealing with their tech which is probably why they are reluctant to change. Call of Duty isn't really one of those franchises...
Why are no dedicated servers "confirmed"? Black Ops has dedicated servers.
It's counter productive because the development team has to learn how to work with a new engine, and given the troubled development history MW3 has had so far and the fact that the release date is 2011 they probably won't be able to build a better engine in that amount of time.
I think Infinity Ward has the superior Call of Duty engine. Treyarch did some great things with World at War but with Black Ops it seemed like a step back. There weren't as many jaw droppin...
Remember the impact the Modern Warfare 2 demo (which released in April 2010, even later than this) had on game sales? The game began to chart on the NPD listings again. I assume there is a sizeable audience waiting for COD demos before jumping in.
Dance Central and Kinect Sports are the games to get so far if you have a Kinect. There are certainly some interesting titles coming out for the device in the future but we'll see how they turn out in the end.

Uh no...
The dev team had issues with Sony during negotations, also, the game was coming to WiiWare in November but put on hold due to space limitations so your exclusivity theory is null.

You should play the 2007 open world Simpsons game by EA, it's based on the movie but the plots are different IIRC. It's a really good game that pokes fun at the games industry (including EA themselves) among other things.
^^^You're not paying for the ability to change your gamertag in the XBL fee since even Silver members can take part.
I don't think the other major services provide this option for free if at all either.
It's the same fee that Microsoft (and I think Sony too) have been charging for ages, it has always cost a few bucks to change your gamertag and I think you're also limited to how many times per year you can change it.
It's not easy making the change happen.
It's only a matter of time before Rock Band is on hiatus as well, maybe more of a DLC platform. I highly doubt Harmonix's new owners bought them so they could continue down their old path, especially since a new IP like Dance Central has been selling so well for them, I doubt Rock Band 3 is doing those type of numbers unfortunately.
Why are people surprised? They've been doing this for years! It was poor planning on Microsoft's part to not have anything major out at retail before then in terms of releases but I guess the Gears 3 delay messed things up in that regard. I can only assume they will have a few announcements in place with a 2012 release to ensure this won't happen next year.
Since they were SO successful in 2008...
Hopefully the netcode is better this time around, during the beta I was only able to play about 2 or 3 matches despite trying for 20 since the game would hang at the quick match screen for a while.
I love Tropico! Have every game on PC and play Tropico 3 almost daily at this point. Day one buy guaranteed! I hope Jualito (haven't seen the trailer yet so maybe he is in the game for all I know!) makes a comeback, some his dialog is hilarious and he provides good commentary to the game.
But I do hope 360 owners actually get a competent port this time, Tropico 3 had the infamous save game issue so no one with a large island or one with over 500 people could load their sa...
