You precede to say:
"I get that small niche audiences likes these games, but most do not". Referring to a game that literally just won game of the year from a panel of 90+ gaming outlets.

Of course this comment section devolved into a childish console war discussion, instead of just celebrating how 2020 could be one of the best gaming years ever. 2020 is absolutely loaded Sony, MS, Nintendo, PC all have great games coming. And coming off the game awards I think it's going to be very difficult to narrow it down to five or six nominations for game of the year next year.

I mean I'm way more interested in everything else going on in the trailer than if it'll look exactly as good as it does in the trailer. It won't, but Hellblade looked fantastic and this has a bigger budget and new hardware I'm sure it'll look fantastic seems like a weird thing for people on both sides (praising and criticizing) to get hung up on.

Not what my choices would be but some interesting choices highlighting some underrated games. But calling 2011 (one of the best game years ever) not a particularly great year is a strange take imo.

@roadkillers

Yea, how dare he suggest I spread the word on a game I liked so much! It's certainly WAY to much to ask for me to leave a couple positive comments for it or vote for it in GOTY voting, I mean they only spent years making a thing I enjoyed. How selfish to assume I would be willing to discussing a game I liked, they definitely should have just "worked harder if they wanted the game to sell more.............

While deserving representation in a few categories Fallen Order missed the cutoff for submissions by the time most outlets got review codes. The cutoff for an eligible games release date was the 15th but the date for voting submission was the 8th.

But honestly I don't see any other game in the article truly deserving of a nomination. And while not a bad game Bloodstained certainly is not close to the best metroidvania of the past few years.

Can't blame him for feeling that way about AAA games after Dishonored 1, 2 and Prey were all criminally undersupported. Curious to see what this new game is.

You're completely spot on, I'm not trying to say "how can people not think that was a great show" moreso questioning expectations. If this was an E3 showing it would be lackluster to say the least. But XO now is to Xbox what PSX was to Sony. A show that yes, can have big announcements and garner some hype going in, but is primarily speaking to the hardcore fans deep in the Xbox ecosystem who want to hear about indies coming to Gamepass, Sea of Thieves DLC, or new controllers...

As an Xbox owner with Gamepass I saw no less than 15-20 games that I'll get to play in the next year that I'm excited to play so. Plus with the basic understanding that this is this end of the gen with next E3 set to be the big Scarlett reveal I'm not sure what was expected.

I mean I know what games are considered action/adventure lol. I'm glad people disagree with me for some reason but I consider it a useless discriptor when comparing a list of games. I mean as you yourself noted with your comment further down action and action/adventure lump games together that shouldn't be. You're also right that shooter should have been a category.

Shooter would have Apex, COD, Metro, Gears, Borderlands, Division. Action should have been a cate...

Don't really understand the distinction between action and action/adventure? DMC and Astral Chain is in action but Sekiro in action adventure. What places Borderlands, Control, and Sekiro in action/adventure and not action? Exploration? Then Metro and Gears don't belong soley in action either.

Death Stranding, Resi, and Zelda make sense in adventure while Apex, Astral, COD, and DMC make sense in action but the others seem arbitrarily placed in one or the other. ...

Maybe it's just me but I don't find this "dilemma" all that difficult to navigate. If I want to have a game forever on my shelf (whether I love the game or want to directly support the team) I will buy the physical game and will own it.

If I don't want to own it permanently or can't justify buying it at the time I'll play it on Gamepass...

Creature in the Well this year is a perfect example. I wanted to play it, but I had ju...

@rainslacker

Not necessarily knocking Days Gone but Metro Exodus, Control, Gears 5, and Katana Zero are all stories I would put above Days Gone this year.

Matt Booty, one person on the games studios team, said his focus was shifting to execution. They never said they were 100% done acquiring. Focusing on one thing more doesn't eliminate your ability to do something else but no call it wishy washy and contradictory lol

Really dig the art style. Raw Fury has quietly been bringing us a ton of awesome stuff they keep this up they'll be deserving to be mentioned alongside Devolver in not too long.

I don't think anyone should touch the original trilogy honestly. It's not even fully that I don't trust Bioware anymore, I did like DA:I and Andromeda way more than most. Even if Bioware were to somehow, defy EA and their recent track record and make ME4 one of the best ME games ever I don't know how I feel about forcing a return to Shepard's story nearly a decade later.

For all it's faults, it's disaster of a development cycle and it's unqu...

Of course this entire comment section turned into a silly fanboy console war conversation. I'm just happy to see a singleplayer, narrative focused game, with no multiplayer, season pass, lootboxes or microtransactions not only sell well but above expectations. Instead of the usual "didn't meet expectations" article we usually get.

I still can't believe we haven't seen a remake of Banjo with how much success Ratchet and Clank, Crash, Spyro, and CTR remakes have seen both critically and financially especially considering Banjo is typically the most revered of that group.
