While I'm afraid that I missed Armyless' reference, I think that the more Myst the better. It is a fantastic game which truly revolutionized a stagnating gaming genre. I have fond memories of the adventure game boom after Myst.
Regardless of what you think of the game, you can't deny its popularity and timelessness. I think the only other game which has sold more copies is The Sims. That's nothing to sneeze at.
Oh I'm well aware of how crappy the bulk of the Wii games are, but crap is crap regardless of the system. The thing that's selling the Wii now is that it's trendy - thus those game developers want to get their junk on the system as fast as possible.
What is interesting, though, is that the PS2 started off very slow, and Sony had to push developers to get games on the system - any games - and THEN it became a trend. Maybe the Wii is working backwards from that, becoming a trend ...
To put things in perspective, and away from your anti-Nintendo spin, isn't this the same formula that pushed the PS and the PS2 into the top spots in their respective generations? Hell, that's what saved the PS2 from its slow release - Sony just wanted to get games on their system. So why is it bad that Wii is following this trend?

Regardless of the fact that Wii Play comes with a Wii Remote, people had to actually purchase the game to get the remote. It's simply called good marketing. You'll see the same thing happen with the Wii Zapper, and the included game "Link's Crossbow Training", only in reverse - people will buy the peripheral only to get the game. Nothing wrong with that from a business perspective.

I'm not really too sure how you can consider the DS to be the worst console ever (are you talking just handhelds, or actual consoles? Damn, when the hell did handheld video game players get called consoles?), but you can't deny the marketing power of the most popular video game player being able to now play the second most widely purchased/loved game in the world.
