The Playstation Studio's engines are just so damn good. It's definitely paid out for Sony to invest in own technology tailored specifically to their hardware.

It still to this day mind boggles me how good TloU2 or God War (2018) & God of War Ragnarok look & run, especially considering they are PS4 gen code fundamentally.

And then there's Spiderman 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet & Clank and Returnal.

Decima Engine ...

I don't mind lengthy single player games.

I am a patient player who doesn't need to progress through the story the fastest way possible.

But I despise side paths and side missions put together effortlessly like they were only created to ramp up the playtime without being encouraging and fun or even logical.

Such as getting a spoon from across the map burried under a bridge in a desert with radioactivity and an army protecting it...

Insane.

How come that these are even bigger budgets than Hollywood film productions?

I really can't "see" what's so expensive about the development of a Call of Duty Game.

I won't ever go and disagree with the mind boggling success the CoD franchise had.

It's become what Kotick said himself years ago: an annual, profits driving monster.

But there you go. I won't go as far as claiming CoD still isn't a household benchmark.

But I'd argue that the franchise itself was now being put in a critical situation.

You either will have Microsoft sucking it dry completely over t...

If these estimates are approximately correct, then 'wow'.

• X|S down 67% to Xbox One's aligned November
• X|S didn''t sell 1M units worldwide in November
• PS5 outsold X|S 11:1 in Europe
• PS5 outsold X|S 2.9:1 in US
• PS5 outsold X|S 5.4:1 globally
• PS5 became the first console to sell over 4M units globally

I mean, this is just brutal. If I was Microsoft, I'd bring everything multipla...

I am still having a hard time acknowledging IPs like Doom, CoD, etc. as Xbox "first party".

In terms of ownership they are. Sure.

But so many IPs have always been around. They were born and always distributed as multiplatform titles.

I'd rather have Xbox bring up some new IPs, new stuff, something that's not just technically first party with inevitable 3rd party DNA that were business-wise only taken over by Microsoft ...

Habits, I guess. And lack of competition in the same scale.

Personally tho, didn't play any CoD since the OG MW.

It's always been the same.

"Can't comment!" to not cannibilize sales on the timed exclusive platform. And, of course, due to contractual bindings.

Happy for them their game has been a success, although I haven't ever really followed the Stalker franchise.

Only catched it sadly suffered a lot of bugs at launch. Which ain't no good for any timed exclusive.

So, if a 100% higher price tag than PS4 Pro results in only 12% lesser sales than at PS4 Pro's launch, then I guess that's a plus in Sony's books, at least economically speaking.

While the PS5 Pro's price tag may or may not remain to be judged with criticism, especially due to the missing and scalped disc drive (which then is an additional revenue driving factor), still noone was or is forced to buy the Pro.

Every sold unit is a concious d...

The imagination that there are people out there, real living and breathing human beings, that create alt accounts every day on this site (it's probably the same person again and again), speaks wretchedness.

What a complete misery.

Funny though. But what a misery if you think about it for just one second.

CDPR talking about "Oh, yeah! It runs well on ... machines." is deeply, deeply flawed for me personally.

I geniuenly had to laugh.

This punchline they've owned themselves.

I strongly believe Bethesda's Creation Engine is just completely exhausted.

I always think of it as it is with Internet speed - you can plug in Ethernet cables, do some router adjustments, keep it up-to-date or even change DNS servers for a better ping.

And it works.

But eventually, no matter what else you do, you just can't increase the actual speed available on your connection.

You then need a better or a ne...

Unless I am missing something here, I don't know why you get downvoted.

You're literally re-stating historical facts.

Many IPs Microsoft now own have always been multiplatform and were created under a third party development process.

All that had changed was the actual ownership.

Technically, e.g. DOOM or Call of Duty are now Xbox' 1st party studios' titles.

Historically grown and c...

It's pretty awkward to me to be writing an acceptance speech two years prior, even before release.

It's a total different thing to write an acceptance speech after the game is being finally released and very well perceived by critcs and fans.

Astro Bot, besides everything else, was also very well polished. Black Myth wasn't. For me, a game of the year must have that quality, too.

And in the very end, I think the highest rate...

To be honest:

I find people that complain about missing or losing something/to something or someone to be a bit of a brat.

It's absolutely okay to feel that way.

But it's awkward to go public, downplay another party's qualities (he's essentially doing that) and ramble about how it wasn't them who won.

No good sports.

I'd be happy if everyone could agree that for almost 40 years now, home consoles have been a pretty popular thing.

I believe that, as long as there ain't no "quantum physics"-like change is happening in the field of how we enjoy entertainment at home, gaming consoles will stay relevant.

The whooole business that's been established around gaming consoles is so huge now, that today it has surpassed music and movie industry numbers by f...

Obscure is like: "The Earth is flat, not a sphere."

Everyone: "How?"

Obscure: "Since when do I have to proof my claim. You go and check yourself. Oh, and tell me if you found."

@Obscure

I really don't get your set of mind. Why are you like that?

This article from November 26th, 2024 even mentioned Microsoft as an entity that's showed interest to takeover Kadokawa.

How far-fetched can that be?

Especially since Kadokawa is currently in such talks, so it doesn't matter with whom specifically. The current situation is proof of the article's claimed sources. And if Kadokawa didn...

So if someone approached you and offered you to buy their property, whatever it might be, what's the face exactly you showed them (or others) if you'd do it?

I agree.

Stepping out would mean another one could or will take over Kadokawa's intellectual properties.

It's at least highly likely Sony don't want this opportunity to slip from their fingers.
