That's actually wrong. Before writing the article, I tested with a brand new user account, brand new PSN name, brand new Konami ID on my PS3. When I fired up Metal Gear Online, I was told I could not create another character because one had already been created on my PS3 and that I would have to pay to get another character.
So it doesn't matter what PSN name or Konami ID you choose, it's tied to the hardware.
That's pretty annoying too. It seems the game doesn't segment anything based on user account on the PS3. Not sure if this is by game design or it's a limitation of the PS3 system.
There are many people out there who share a PS3 with family, roommates, etc. Each person with their own PS3 system account and PSN name cannot each use a different character on MGO. That means no separate stats, etc. unless they pay the $7
This isn't a duplicate story. The original story you linked to stated the cost exists, but did not have any information about how much it costs for these extra characters. This story discusses that cost.
Microsoft announced some original programming for XBL a while back. No idea if it will be anything like Qore or if they plan to introduce anything like this.
There's definitely some great content there. I just take issue with the ads, especially for Burger King.
That's what gets annoying... looking down your friends list and seeing the same avatar over and over
Yeah maybe have avatars available in the PlayStation Store (for free) so everyone knows when new ones are available. I would have expected some nice Heavenly Sword, MGS4, or Little Big Planet avatars by now.
The PSN did not exist on the PS2. The total number of subscribers is since the launch of the PS3 only.
If they're small, it's not that big of a deal. But so many games now requiring 4-5gb of data is just insane
You must be the only person in the world to never hear racism in Halo 2 online.
Agreed. I only play with friends now. I used to hop into any match and have a good time, now it's just crazy to use a mic with random people, no matter what the service
nirun - you're wrong. Here's the press release from May 2007 regarding firmware update v1.80 for the PS3 that introduced PS1/PS2 upscaling to 1080p.

What about people just getting into gaming or those who don't want to or can't have multiple consoles hooked up at the same time? Having the PS3 serve as the PS2 makes things that much easier. Not to mention that the PS3 upscales all PS2 titles to 1080p.
Rock Band needs more than 2 USB ports. If you keep the PS Eye hooked up, that uses one right there. There are plenty of needs for more than 2 USB ports in the system. I've had all four used outside of Rock Band plenty of times (PS Eye, SingStar mics, charging controllers, USB keys, etc).
The extra hard drive space is important, especially given the fact that more and more games are requiring installs. The extra USB ports also come in handy. However, the biggest factor for most is the backwards compatibility with PS2 titles. There's a huge library of titles people would want to play.
I think that's been going on more than people think. Sure, the PS3 has gotten a lot of sales over the past few months, but how many more would have they gotten if all these people weren't waiting for the 80GB console?
Reporting as spam? Just because it's not kissing Sony's behind doesn't mean it's spam.
This is an editorial (notice it's tagged Article) discussing if Sony made a mistake by not stocking the 80GB SKU in the US during the first half of 2008. By leaving gamers no choice for backwards compatibility, they may have lost sales. Nowhere in the editorial does it say that Sony is not selling units worldwide. In fact, if you took the time to read the article, it says that Sony has seen a n...
Yeah based on everything in the Beta, the vehicles trump anything in Halo 3. It felt a lot like CoD4 with tanks, which is cool
Well there is an MGO Shop in the menu screen for Metal Gear Online. They say they plan to sell maps, characters, modes, etc. Who knows what they end up coming out with, free or paid.
I have to say I'm a bit perplexed that they don't use the PlayStation Store for any of it, though. Having to open the web browser and go through the Konami website seems a bit dumb.
