A lot of people don't understand Sony. Yes the are in third right now but how can they remain so calm. Its because they are comparing their success with the success of the PS2. PS2 had a horrible start and was the inferior of the two consoles Xbox and PS2. Now, PS3 is doing incredible better than the PS2 and the quality of games (not quantity which they could use) is way better than what xbox 360 had at its launch/first year.
Sony is competiting with themselves not the othe...
I believe your wrong. Sony has always wanted a "do more" system and Playstation has always been the expensive of the consoles. It was old and xbox was out selling at $200 the Sony was still trying to hold the $200 price point and then slowly lowered the price point to the $150 even though the original xbox was obviously more powerful machine at the time. Microsoft definitely had a good strategy back then problem is they were too late in the game and Sony was ready to release th...
if you were to stricly use it for HD and used 50GB
Blu-ray discs multiplied by 200 that 10000GB. Divide that by $3500 and you get approx 2.86 per GB. That's not bad. Another thing what idiot would take up a Slot with a DVD when it does burn Blu-ray discs and you can fit several DVD movies on a 50 GB disc. I got a friend who just go a blu-ray burning drive for his computer and he is already doing that to his DVD collection.
Sony is still make a killing in PS2 software and hardware sales as there are millions upon millions of PS2 and people still buying games for it. PS2 is already in the profitability category and so they make money quite easily (even on the hardware). PS3 will eventually take its seat among the other players. I actually like Sony's strategy with this. The other console makers just dump older systems and concentrate on new systems and while that is efficient, it doesn't leave much to loyalty...
Blu-ray uses the same copy protection scheme that HD DVD uses. Blu-ray has an addition layer of protection as well, however, none are required meaning a company or individual can allow multiple copies if so desired and if a company is worried about the very restrictive nature of BD plus they don't have to implement it and just use the standard AACS (which is used by HD DVD as well) or..... Microsoft could release the software with out any DRM/copy restrictions but we of course know that well...
There are other blu-ray players made by other companies and contrary to popular belief they are not Sony clones or made by Sony. Sony has some stake in the discs themselves but the Hardware is not.
There was a dumb comment above that said that the only people who want HD DVD dead is Sony Extremists. What a stupid ignorant comment. The same stupid comment could be said against HD DVD supporters who seem to be made up of mostly Sony Haters and open source freaks.
I say that we should have consumers protection laws in place that say if the industry can decide on a single standard formats then they must support both competing formats.
This would mean Blu-ray only, as well as HD DVD only, would have to support both since nobody could agree to work together on a single standard format.
Maybe then, Sony and the Blu-ray supporter group plus Toshiba and the HD DVD group would have worked harder on a single standard rather than t...
add to that the money deals and that is a lot of money HD DVD Camp has spent to keep it alive.
In Contrast, its business as usually for the Blu-ray Camp. Not selling at a loss and not blowing as much money into keeping it alive.
If people think that Blu-ray Group have even started to do a price War are going to get a wake up call this Christmas season. Blu-ray has done fine with out all the dirty tricks and there are Companies getting ready to release sum incre...
not new to me
It would be cool to see if Ninja Theory can top this first generation game with an even better looking (1080p), better playing (not saying its bad but 60 FPs), More/longer levels and freedom, even better physics.
Games like Heaven Sword and Uncharted definitely show that the PS3 is capable and none of the games this year really consistantly push the Cell past 50%.
I'd like to see even more! (Uncharted isn't even out yet and hope they have plans for another)
Remember Toshiba sold their players for less than they were worth. Hoping to make money up on royalties/kickbacks from Disc sails. Of course, that plan really didn't go smooth. So inorder to keep things moving along a deal like Paramount only makes sense. Save face by Paying Paramount to go HD DVD and give them royalty access works for them. No money loss on Paramounts Part since they can just add the royalty to the price of the Disc.
I don't think a Single Blu-ray company h...
oh did that just slip out?
They are more objective than most magazines and seem to work on a scale than a point system. What I mean is that if something in a game, for instance FPS dips occasionally but not enough to distract from the game, it will lower the score. Now most magazines will just keep subtracting and won't go back up. Play Magazine tends to allow other things to tilt the game score back up. So lets say the score for HS was tilted down on some Technical Merit. However a fantastic Plot or fantastic Artwor...
This game is cool and my boys and I will get a kick out of it.
fact is I'm a Parent gamer and I have Children who of course game (probably because I do). I have a Xbox 360 and will have a PS3 and you can bet there will/are games that cater to them from those consoles. My boy already know I am getting a PS3 and they are constantly reminding/begging me to get Ratchet and Clank even though they are Hard-Core Nintendo fans (yes I will unfortunately have all three systems in my house but I usually don't have to bother with to much money invested in the Wii (...
Let us categorize these a bit better:
Must have:
(This category speaks for itself)
King Kong
The Bourne Supremacy Movies
The Fast and the Furious Movies
Jurassic Park Movies
American Pie Movies
Gladiator
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
The Maybes category
(maybes are movies good enough for HD but aren't popular enough to justify it if their HD Theater can upscale these movies good e...
Dual support doesn't hurt anyone. Exclusives hurt people and even worse switchers (like cough....cough... Paramount)
But I will agree on one thing. It will only make the market worse. People will probably still have to buy two players to enjoy all great titles buy everyone.
In other words.....
We the consumers lose!!.... either by our pockets or our movie collection.
Unless somebody forces a single standard, what you will have dual/triple type standards where only certain are exclusive and only a few support more than one. So what will happen is that now Movie buffs like me will have to do the same thing as Game buffs and buy multiple/console... I mean players to see all their favorite movies.
Unfortunately for the Movie industry there is a lot more poeple (especially poor people) who can't afford a mult-format movie and Movies are still ...
Did Sony ever make big money exclusive movie deals or was it just on technological merit. Far as I know, Sony doesn't like doing those kinds of deals unless they are going to purchase it themselves (like they did with Killzone).
Please provide a news link to back your info.
To be honest if Sony hasn't done this corner market thing, I believe the HD DVD camp (as well as Paramount and perhaps Universal) might be treading water a bit to long with these exclusive de...
why would Studios want to switch to a format that is so close to another than Piracy is easier.
Blu-ray is totally different and has that extra layer of security (BD in addition to AACs.........
and since studios are so into protecting their movies by staying blu-ray Chinese would still have to produce blu-ray manufacturing plants anyway.
There is one thing China did right though and that's adopt a SINGLE standard. Something that failed here in th...
