It is a game that simulates driving. But it is a game. People should buy it as such.
I can't disagree on renting before buying if you are undecided...but think most people that like auto racing games would end up buying after having time to preview this game in a rental. I know I would.
I'm laughing at this debate...with both games it is a concious decision from the game makers to decide how much simulation versus how much gaming to balance the game the way they think is best.
For those that want absolutely the most realistic experience possible, they need a second player with a blunt object. Whenever you crash really hard, have the guy standing next you hit you in the face with the object. This will simulate realistic damage to the driver.
It's an interesting debate on damage, but those that have been following the development, know that this is something the makers debated themselves on how to approach it. They could have made cars not drivable at all after an 80mph impact...but they know that is not what people want - at least in the learning phase easier levels of the game. Without a rewind feature, and cars being easily crippled...people would be complaining about the punishing difficulty.
It is hard to read this, because he spends way too much time talking about himself. Get to the point.
Personally, I would rather see a really great game come out with available roster DLC updates, so you can just update your roster for a nominal fee each year. Perhaps sell the new game avery 3 years or so if major improvements are done in the game engine.
But that is good for gamers not game companies, thus why you won't see it as long as EA has exclusive NFL license.
Changes aren't necessarily good, if the game overall is a rushed thing of poor quality in order to meet annual deadlines.
As an example, Madden 2008 had features that DIDN'T WORK. Franchise mode was thoroughly f*cked because of running out of players in some positions.
Nascar is more challenging than people would think. The cars are a real handful, being heavy & powerful. Driving top speed on the ovals requires constant adjustment of braking, steering, & throttle to keep from losing it.
I have read a variety of good & bad reviews. Having played the game through 1st three circuits, amatuer, beginner & pro, and at level 18 I can see that I've only scratched the surface, and am totally addicted to keep going.
To use a car analogy, some of the criticism on things like game menus, standard car graphics, unlock schemes for more advanced AI & damage is like complaints on how the radio & climate control buttons are laid out on an otherwise tota...
Why are people calling GT5, GranTURDismo 5?
Because a lot of little kids post on game sites.
I'm guessing if Micro$oft gets in on the act, they will be more expensive by finding ways to nickel & dime you for every little thing. That's how they roll.
lol on the top ten list thing. Without a top ten list, these guys have no ideas at all for new game articles.
When peple talk about dev time with GT5, they incorrectly assume all that was just game programming, polishing graphics. Much of the dev time is done researching & testing real cars. Every car feels different in this game, and there are endless amounts to use in this game.
Only a fanboy would see a fanboy comment as having any insight.
If you are not a fanboy, you just see this kind of comment for what it is - pretty much irrelevent to the task at hand of reviewing a game for what it is. So is mentioning how long a game took to make, because there is no standardization in the process of making a game from dev to dev. If you take dev time into account on a review, then your scores will be very arbitrary with those kinds of demerits.
I would love to play a great NFL game...but unfortunately there is only one brand making them, and they are far from great.
I refuse to buy any games that are re-released annually with a 2010, 2011, etc. tacked on to the name. It means same old crappy game with some new window dressing & roster changes...so EA can make a lot more money of their old game engine.
For games like this, if you like driving games you need to check it out yourself & decide - reviewers can't tell you much except what they were hoping is different in layout, graphics etc.
But as far as playing the game, it takes time to work your way up, and unlock stuff. If you like the physics, the way the cars handle, you will like playing it for a long time & unlock more features like damage. If you are playing the game for your job as a reviewer, you proba...
So far when I see negative reviews, they seem to be going off on stuff I pay no attention to, like menu layouts & whatnot.
I spend all my time while playing this game either buying/modding cars or racing them. The game does that really great. And I don't find the menu hard to navigate...need a different car to qualify for a race? Hit the garage button while on the race selection screen, and the compatable list of cars in your garage shows up. The author of this art...
People be trippin
I'm pretty sure that PS3 exclusives on average have been some of the highest rated games this generation.
First off, anybody caring about media creations like Sarah Palin has way too much time on their hands, regardless what country they are in. Change the channel, because it is all useless time filler for so-called news channels.
Secondly, those people sheltering themselves behind jingoism are small thinkers, and not anyone people should be concerned about when they pop off on the Internet. When people are rude & insulting to others, you have to assume they are the last pe...
I hear ya on that. I was just doing one of those driving tests, and it started pissing me off that I was disqualified several times while just holding my ground on the inside, while the NPC car always comes in on my line & sideswipes me. If I back off, I lose. If I hold my ground, I lose.
