Something the article totally ignores is maybe the most important thing consoles offer today: Online.
So having a lot of friends on Xbox Live or PSN makes you a lot more loyal towards Xbox or PS.

And the difference between PS3 and Xbox 360 is sooo tiny from a technical standpoint. Why should MS release more or less a console just as powerful as the current one?

2012: Halo 4 (get 10 million+ people start a new trilogy)
2013: Xbox 720 with Fable IV, Forza 5, CoD will do just fine
2014: Gears of War 4
2015: Halo 5 let 10million+ people keep on playing the trilogy.
Mix 1-2 new IPs in it and you have some serious system sellers.

but as long as the margin is bigger than the margins of the other two regions, MS is doing fine. That is why the Xbox outsold the PS3 in 2011 by 500k. Sure the pricecut might have changed that, but so far I am not seeing a gigantic boost for the PS3. This might change during the holiday season though.
I think Sony should focus more on profitability than on market share this late in the generation.
With a profit of 1.36 billion USD last year (Just for the EDD / 23.15 billion USD for the whole company), MS can easily cut the price. They don't need to though. The difference will be +/- 5 million and this will basically secure 3rd party support for the coming years.
In a word: Bring on the next generation.

There are two sorts of entertainment which use 3D - Gaming and Movies. So do you want this to be a gaming only device? This would make things only worse. I thought at least some of you would have learned that it is all about making technology invisible...
As I said you can't use this device with two people at the same time, which kills the social aspect.
So this basically kills the social aspect of entertainment.
