There are NO shortages in Germany. This is an Amazon.de specific problem. I can go out and buy 100 move controller right now. I will post a picture later if you want to. There are about 100 starter kits in every Media Markt I have been at.
Amazon.de must have fucked up with their orders though. I don't know how they can have shortages while every other store is just fine.
Sony counts ACCOUNTS.
So if you are European and have a European Account and a American Account, there are 2 accounts.
PSN is not just PS3. Sony counts PS3, PSP( of course only if they are connected to the internet), PSP Go (must be connected for obvious reasons) and even Playstation forums as PSN-accounts.
Microsoft counts UNIQUE USERS:
Basically Xbox Live is just Xbox 360. So if you have TWO accounts on one Xbox 36...

500m sounds like a lot, but it is not if you are MS. The EDD reported a 700 million USD profit last year and is profitable since 2008. So they really can afford this.
And the good part is that the marketing for Kinect is not limited to this one device. At a $150 pricepoint, the hardware is most likely profitable or AT LEAST breaking eve...

I can't wait for Kinect for two reasons:
No. 1: I want to play with Kinect and try to get my girlfriend into gaming.
No. 2: I want to see the sales of Kinect. It is sold out at Game.co.uk, Amazon.co.uk, Newegg and Gamestop. And advertising has not started yet. 3 million in the first 2 months seems like an educated guess.

This year, NPD reported 8 months so far and for 6 out of 8 months the Xbox 360 had the best selling game.
January was won by Wii with NSMB Wii
March was won by PS3 with God of War.
Every other month was won by a Xbox 360 game.
