Funny part is heyheyhey, I like Gears. A lot. I'm impressed that a new IP can do so well. It's a testament to gamers and the fact they WILL buy a new series if its good, isntead of just sequel after sequel (Square Enix!).
But man, if you don't praise the ground Halo or Gears walks on, you're a PS3 fanboy! I wish people would allow constructive criticism. Here's one... Gears has crappy, generic and cliche characters. The first one was tongue in cheek about it, and I respected tha...
Well Ape, can you imagine the fanboy outcry and disagrees (watch) if I suggested the franchises that really started to grow on the PS and PS2 stayed exclusive to the PS3?
GTA
MGS
DMC
Tekken
FF
If all those, which are equated with the PS brand, stayed there? A lot of gamers would miss out I feel. I don't think we should have to pick and choose our system based on the third party personally, since they aren't the console maker.
Aga...
Sure, once Gears of War takes a note on how to make a character with personality.
Snake > Marcus.
Oh yeah, and grow up.
They released official LBP sales figures? Where?
Edit - You can get disagrees for a serious question? No wonder this site is a joke. Poor loser fanboys. Tsk tsk.
Really Ape? I have to disagree. I think the first party studios are the developers that should define a system. I think third party teams like Epic, Capcom, Namco, etc should put all of their titles on all systems. I mean, the two systems are on par, and since the industry insists on keeping the same development schedules from last gen, coupled with higher costs... well, they need to branch out to survive. HD games just cost a ton of money.
I'd rather have Midway and Capcom still...
While I don't think you need to call out Xbox fanboys, since its fanboys in general, I do think you PARTLY have a point.
I miss the SNES and Genesis days. It was about Blast Processing, Sonic's speed, blood or no blood in MK, Starfox's 3D epicness, Mode 7... stuff we could see. Games. Fun.
This gen, I see so many people trying to validate their purchases via sales numbers, tie ratios, review scores, etc. It pains me that so many people get sucked in by PR bullet hype...
Congrats to Epic.
More importantly, this goes a long way in showing that this industry, the hobby we all love, is a little more recession proof than most.
Why is it a crime to enjoy both? Considering, I dunno, they are on different systems, are different genres, and have different art styles, design choices, and gameplay focus?
Fanboys suck ass, and are ruining gaming.
Microsoft has trained their fans into thinking only in numbers. Sales, review scores, tie ratios, profits.
It's rather pathetic frankly.
It's definitely a great, great action game... but I don't see anything unique about the 3 things you mentioned. What it does do, is mix them together to form a solid and cohesive package however.
This story is just silly as Gears is one of the stronger new IPs that hit this generation, and the sequel is poised to do well. The only thing that may hold it back is there are a LOT of titles on the market this winter for the 360 and PS3, and also an economic crisis.
Remember fanboys, when Valve says L4D isn't coming to the PS3, it's a fact despite all the rumors.
But when Konami says MGS4 isn't coming to the 360 despite all the rumors, it's not true and a port is on the way?
Man, I LOVE this site.
Dry?
Halo Recon
Halo Wars
Alan Wake
Killzone 2
RE5
Infamous
Uncharted 2 and GoW3 are both rumored
I'd say next year looks like another solid year for gamers personally.
THIS is how you review a game. Likes/Dislikes. Pros/Cons. None of this arbitrary scoring bull crap. I commend Kotaku for keeping with this review system, its something ACTUAL GAMERS can relate to, and something FANBOYS will never understand.
The support for this game has been great. Thanks a lot to Criterion. I will def buy this 4 pack... god I just hope the others include takes on the Batmobile, General Lee, and KIT... hehehe. Anyways, I can only pray they work on Black 2 soon!
You know, I find it funny that Knight slams games that are supposed to be "hit franchises" for the PS3 when they score "only 90" or sell "only 4 million copies." But not he praises Rare for being mediocre?
Sorry, but the talent at Rare is gone. THe name is just that, a name. Its the people BEHIND the name that matter, and this new team just cannot play ball like the old one unfortunately.
Let me know when Rare makes a REAL sequel to...
I too was let down by Halo 3. Halo and Halo 2 were pretty damn awesome. Halo 3's campaign was a letdown for me. The multiplayer is cool, even though I dislike the muzzle drift. I do enjoy the color palette and visual style. I LOVE the replay/record options, and I think more games should use that in this day and age.
But the story? Bleh. Anticlimactic. I'd love to see an awesome Gravemind fight... instead we get... well you know who at the end. Lame. Also, it crossed the line, I...
Do NOT take N4G seriously. If you even constructively criticize a game you like, you will be knocked for it. Fanboys on both sides are too closed minded sadly.
Would you say Killzone 2 is closer to a CoD4 experience than a Halo 3 experience? IE, more tactical, less run and gun mayhem?
I miss Coop on the Campaign personally, but I do respect them for trying something new with the Coop, and many many people seem to be loving it.
I do wish the story was a little more fleshed out as well, but I can't knock it because it does have some awesome moments.
Why are some people barking the "amazing" card? The same reason some are for Halo 3 or Gears 2 or MGS4... OPINION. Entertainment is subjective.
I didn't say started. I said really started to grow. GTA and FF is debatable, but lets all be honest that FF7 was probably the true start of the JRPG rise in the USA, and GTAIII was one of the first "sandbox" console games. Metal Gear SOLID started on the PS, and even Kojima has said, is synonymous with the PS brand. Tekken is the same.
Again, these are franchises that you think "Sony" when they are mentioned I feel. Just like you think Xbox when you hear Dead...
