The part that gets me about competition is how consoles try too hard to be the one featuring the most advanced tech, yet they don't spend enough time dev. for that tech. By the time game engines are perfected a new set of hardware comes out and those engines are rendered useless.

Don't get me wrong, it IS the best platformer to come out for next gen consoles, and it IS on of the best looking games to come out for consoles as well.
The game kinda disappointed me though because it emphasised action over adventure. I wanted to do more exploring and puzzle solving, not just gunfighting.
The story was cool and it played out like a movie, but it was kind of short and easy to beat. The vehicle missions were pretty awesome though.
This game always needed an extra element or something. The enemy fights get repetitive, I found myself playing just to get to the boss fights.
And from all the game vids I saw the environments looked really bland compared to NG1. From the cathedral to the ninja dojo, the settings in NG1 seemed a lot more detailed to me.

They started out as a mac exclusive company whose big claim to fame was a rip off of quake(Marathon). Quake was PC only so they made a clone for MAC and cashed in.

What about Star Ocean, FF Tactics, Breath of Fire, Secret of Mana, WOW, etc. Really though, if you're gonna do a best of RPG list, you have to make it at least 10 titles long.
But I doubt its an AAA title, it just doesn't offer that much more than NG1. Not to mention the gameplay in NG has always felt kinda empty because there was no story to it. You basically just play this game for the boss fights.
