Again, I agree with you. In the end, sales numbers shouldn't mean jackshit to us as consumers, that's a matter for the investors to worry about, not us. For us, it should come to the games and other experiences we're enjoying on our consoles. Simple as that.
- Fact: Wii U didn't sell as good as the Wii at launch.
- Fact: Wii U sold better than PS3 / Xbox 360 at launch.
- Fact: launch numbers don't mean much in the long run for a console. Wii U actually had decent launch sales, and so will Sony and Microsoft's next consoles. What matters in the end is the developer support the consoles get on their lifecycles, and that remains to be seen for all three.
- Fact: we shouldn't care so much about sales numbers of...
Yeah, I feel your pain. This agree/disagree system is absolute crap in the cesspool of fanboys that sadly conforms the majority of N4G's community. I gave you an agree to both of your posts to try to balance things out a bit for you, as futile as that attempt may be.
Sure, let the PS3 die NOW, just when it's finally making actual profit per console sold for Sony after several years of selling at a loss.
Basically, this article says that the PS3 needs to go so the Vita can do better. That's a inanely stupid argument. Yes, I agree with the point that the Vita needs more content unique to it, games that can't be had anywhere else, to make it more appealing to the consumer. But that shouldn't come at the expense of another con...
Dude, was that jab at Sony really needed at the end...? -___-
You can't take your Wii U with you to play anytime, anywhere.
Also, development costs for Wii U games are considerably higher than for 3DS games, so there's that appeal for making games for the 3DS, as well.
Regarding the games coming this year... we're barely staring 2013, so we don't know how the release calendar will pan out for the 3DS yet.
Lastly, but most important: Nintendo has always made sure to make unique gaming exp...
It's a good guess, but then they still aren't really thinking. They can lock the content to your account AND the console, meaning you can only play with that content on one console at the time.
I mean, Sony and Microsoft manage to do just that (only that, in Sony's case, it's two consoles). Why not Nintendo, then?
"In order to fully expand Miiverse to a wider audience, Nintendo will also be bringing the network to the Nintendo 3DS and eventually to PCs and smartphones as well, so you can check it anywhere you are."
I hope this means that your Nintendo Network ID will be freed from your console - meaning, it won't be tied to a single console anymore... this could imply that your purchased content (downloadable games and content) won't be tied to it, as well, but to you...
I'm going to use my last bubble on this answer, so I hope you truly understand my point here, because I won't be able to make any more posts:
Tell me, have you ever laughed at ANYTHING that represented murder in any way? For example, going over to a prostitute in Grand Theft Auto IV, having sex with her, then ramming over her with your car until she's dead, then collecting her corpse's dropped money?
Countless people found that and similar vid...
Oh, and on Nintendo Land, when that Robotic assistant asked me to write or draw a greeting message for my Plaza (which would be posted on Miiverse), I drew Pedobear on a black background saying: "Free candy and ice cream!".
That was on launch day. That message is still on Miiverse.
So, if this news are indeed true, then wow... just wow.
Yeah, this whole story reeks of bogus. Not believing it in the least, it's way too ridiculous to be true.
Oh, I guess someone needs to tell me that I'm a teenager, then, because I bought a Wii U despite me being 30 years old. How dare I?
Seriously, though, you sound as ridiculous as those actual teenagers that think that grown up men only play Call of Duty and that Mario is only for teh kidz.
And yes, the machine itself isn't that great, power-wise. But the controller isn't horrible at all.
Ok, sorry, I meant the DSi. My bad. Point is still the same.
And no, what Nintendo is doing right now is what makes the most business sense. If they do what you suggested, then they would be shortening the Wii's lifespan for no reason at all. Better try and sell as many of them as they can, while the Wii U's install base grows bigger over time. It's better to let the Wii disappear from the market naturally (out of consumer disinterest), than to cut it dramatically...
You're seriously deceived if you think that the PS4 and Xbox 720 will launch perfectly, and won't receive updates to improve on things.
Why would they? The Wii is still selling pretty well, and every Wii sold turns a ridiculous profit for Nintendo. That's the same reason why they haven't discontinued the DS, despite the 3DS having been in the market for a year and half or so.
No mention of Super Mario Bros. 2?
*sad*
Sony has a lot of strong exclusive IPs as well, so your argument ("you can't beat Mario, Zelda, etc) is purely subjective. At least you aknowledged it was your opinion.
Regarding the "innovation" part... we don't actually know what Sony's and Microsoft's next consoles will bring to the table, besides more power. So you can't make any statement regarding innovation until all the machines are out.
And when are you going to make the game console and the Nintendo Network ID independent, Nintendo?
So far, THAT is my biggest complain about my Wii U. It's absurd to have your ID locked to the console. If it dies on you, or it's stolen, then you lose not only the console, but the DLC and downloaded games, too. It's stupid, and I think Nintendo should adress that first, before anything else.
Thanks for the laugh! People took you too seriously, they need to brighten up a little. XD
What makes me sad is that, if Sony and Microsoft released $700 game consoles, people would shit on their pants, dooming them to hell for making the consoles "ridiculously expensive", despite the fact that said consoles would last a good 5 or 6 years minimum... but then they go out and buy a $600 fucking TELEPHONE. EVERY. FUCKING. YEAR.
Agh! D:
