Outside if you understand the business side of it then you know gamers have to give somewhere along the process. Consoles aren't PCs where you just brute force everything. It's more nuanced, it takes time to figure out. And once you figure it out you have a new device to learn. All of this increases cost for developers. You could make a $600 console but most won't buy it. Even if it's worth the money. So console manufacturers compromise because gamers are cheap.

This is all well and good, but Microsoft better hire a lot of people who are really good at Mortal Kombat. Microsoft is great at creativity in hardware and concepts. They suck at application. Get people who know all of the finishing moves.

I believe we will see S stick around one more generation. The improvements we see in OG Xbox games is based on code already there that the machine was capable of showing. Microsoft's emulator allowed them to bring it out with Xbox. I believe the multiple frame rates and resolutions we are seeing is because games are being designed to work across multiple devices like they would on PC. The emulator that is bringing out additional code on X will be used to do the opposite for S once the nex...

If Microsoft had sold a bunch of Xbox One X in Japan Sony would announce PlayStation 5 tomorrow morning.

Northpaws wasn't PSNow designed to bring gaming to any device? You fanboys always want to blame Microsoft for your delusional slights. Gaming moving on from devices to platforms is just a basic recognition of the changing landscape. Gamers are too cheap to pay more money for receiving more content. We've gone from sub-10 million average budgets in 2005 to 25-30 million average budgets. Same price for the game. Gamers won't stand for microtransactions or advertising. They watch dev...

It's not surprising so many can't tell the difference since most can't. Most people wouldn't know 1080i from p. That was the knock against going to HD in the first place. Most couldn't tell and many didn't care. It's a good looking game. But the X version is definitely clearer.

Well we now know what Sony thinks of X. The timing isn't an accident. But will it deter anyone who is going to buy an Xbox, doubt it. A lot of PS4s already out there. People buying X already have one or are Xbox loyalists.

It will outsell Pro by a lot more than 2:1.

Seniyah, I don't care about this game. But it's not like Sony fanboys don't list every ten copy selling piece of crap released when they talk about exclusives. Games that lose money that developers had hope for before launch. You people are selling false hope.

Funny hearing people say Microsoft is ruining gaming. For $100 extra you get BC with improved graphics and frame rate without a monthly fee. I remember when PSN was free the cost of Live was always added to the cost of a 360. Does that mean improved BC on Xbox One mean Xbox owners now get to subtract the cost of PSNow from their purchase? What is the rate for the improvements?

A lot of developers say they would have done this or that if they had more power. I wonder if we're ever going to get the extra power in Pro and X used for additional content that pushes developers more ambitious ideas.

Microsoft has a ton of money and a willingness to spend it on R&D. But once engineers come up with something the company seems to lack people with the imagination to properly utilize it. Kinect had potential if any of the in-house developers had the creativity to use it. Well I guess they'll get something done with Hololens, but past history says be cautiously optimistic.

Microsoft has made a ton of effort in Japan since the launch of the original Xbox. People forget, or ignore when they're fanboys, all of the games Microsoft bought exclusivity for with the 360. The forget, ignore, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Jade Empire and some Square titles. None of it helped. Japanese gamers gad room for one console in their small apartment. Then they claimed it was too big. They claimed loyalty to Sony for it's efforts rebuilding Japan after WWII. Microsoft has don...

I can't believe no is complaining about what this means for the troops. It's as if no one really cared from the start. Which can't be true because Americans also put the troops first. Like when they get so angry when athletes protest. Or if someone speaks against an illegal war. Though I have to admit the people are suspiciously quiet when there are so many homeless veterans. Even when veterans made of 90% of all homeless. They are very quiet about all of the millions of troops wi...

What about the troops. Should they just buy a used Xbox 360? I would appreciate it if the first article about this being an attack on the troops could be up tomorrow. Thanks for your consistency and even handedness.
