Seriously though you might be looking at it the wrong way. As SoCs become more capable of running full programs MS will take over. MS makes a huge portion of the business software that companies like. And they like tablets. Once the two meet Android will be facing oblivion.

If you have different information feel free to link it. But they don't disagree because the information is old or wrong, they disagree because they are pure sheep. Any thing that they perceive as a slight against Sony will get a disagree. They even disagree with Sony if they don't want to hear it. Most of them still probably think the Cell was a great idea. Once you implant a sheep with an idea it's hard to reprogram them. Almost impossible.

It's only harder to convince sheep. Facts don't matter with them. All the facts in the world won't make a difference. Only when the magic force in the world that controls sheep gives the order will they move. If MS releases a machine this fall with 5 launch exclusives(all HC) a system with 5 times the power of the PS4 and a cheaper price some will still complain. Same thing the other way around.

It's not about the need for a box. This is a battle to make your box relevant. These companies are in competition. No one is going to just step aside and say, go ahead Samsung, you can have it all. Each company has to have a more compelling product. Plus looking at the world from a tech persons perspective is a mistake. The vast majority will continue to do what they've always done. SmartTVs are a afterthought to them.

Even that in the US would be illegal. They can not watch you at all. They could add something in the terms of use, but that would be another console killing rumor and no company is that stupid. The marketing angle would simply be reporting what was played and for how long. Just like your current cable box does. Perverts go to jail every day for planting cameras in peoples homes.

You're right about people buying it anyway. The majority of the noise is from Sony fanboys. People that are willing to buy any brand will buy both, all three or whichever they think is best. All of the talk is just N4G talk. If the 720 proves to be a better console they will go with the wind.

While Sony has had one leak on the PS4 as far as architecture(a couple of potential GPUs), the 720 has had a lot of them. Since their have been so many we don't know about the 720. It could be any combination of the things we've heard and some things we haven't.

Downside is that it doesn't get any more desperate than that.
Since both Microsoft (SmartGlass) and Sony(Gaikai, Vita) have a second screen solution I'm not sure what the limitation is. If anything, the Wii U is limited because it doesn't have the power to run multiple second screens. The PS4 and the 720 will. Razer has proven buttons can be added later.
