Is this a scummy tactic too?

Sony is also courting indie developers with royalties,

"The Pub Fund itself is an interesting sort of creativity incubator. Sony basically gives developers royalties up front so that they can fund their games. In return, Sony gets either full exclusivity or timed exclusivity. They don’t own the developer and they only work from one game to the next, avoiding any long-term contracts."

You need to stop this campaigning on Sony's behalf first and foremost. That way your bias wouldn't keep getting in the way. This beta is doing exactly what it's supposed to do, bring awareness to issues before it comes out in its final stages. These people who signed up are likely Sony's biggest supporters so if they are saying there's problems then chances are they want them fixed quickly. What better way than to go public? Also the more people they open it up to the more...

What's really hilarious to the point of disturbing are the people who create new accounts solely for the purpose of trying to annoy a certain fanbase.

The truth is after all the negativity the X1 got since it's debut and high price who actually thought it would outsell the PS4? What is interesting however is how much has changed since that time with the direction the X1 has taken. But what hasn't changed over that period and is unlikely to change are those who go ...

Nintendo does not own Sega. They have a partnership with Sonic and 3 titles will be exclusive to the Nintendo platform. Sega is owned by Sammy and are now Sega-Sammy.

I would actually like to see Nintendo buy Capcom but I don't think Nintendo wants that large of an acquisition, they are a cheap company. Sony doesn't have the money and Microsoft does but would Microsoft want to own Capcom (which includes its arcades)? They would likely put up a fight because they are a...

Both of you are probably right. Sony likely has some pricing plans for them to look at as a suggestion. However whatever the publisher decides on the consumer will still question the whole service (meaning Sony) if prices are not very good.

Where this service needs to go that other services like Onlive didn't is for new games. That is where I can see the impact and interest occurring.

I see no games listed that are new, so yes, $60 is a lot more than just paying upwards of $30 for a 3 month window to finish the game. But if none of the games are new then comparing it to $60 games is kinda pointless.

Maybe that is something Sony should be offering, a rental service for new games. Then those prices would be much more in line with reality.

NextLevel,

All those platforms you listed did have competition, just not to the level of making a huge impact. They were still there as an alternative choice. The N64, Gamecube, Xbox, PSP and Vita were all created to try and compete.

"So stay politically correct, I'll stay grounded in reality."

What is reality to you though? Telling everyone not to bother with the X1 while you spend more time talking about it than anything else...

We know that, trouble is the public image still points the finger at Sony since it's their service. And don't think for a second that Sony doesn't have any input on that pricing, otherwise why are the prices the same for the 4 hour rental for example?

4242d ago 10 agree3 disagreeView comment

The prices will come down when nobody buys it, that's usually how things work, but for a starting point the prices are really out of whack for many of the games. Nobody is going to go for those 3 month plans in the first place when the prices are higher than just buying it. The 4 hour and 90 day plans are the real eyesores, the other options aren't bad.

Why are you telling everyone to move on when you yourself refuse to? I'm constantly seeing you in X1 related articles and if your not doing that your talking about the system. Just buy one and get it over with.

Anyways competition is good but that doesn't necessarily mean we need parity among sales. This has been a huge wake-up call for Microsoft and they have improved the system a lot since it was unveiled and focused on gaming for 2 E3 shows now. Good competition is...

@sinspirit,

Microsoft has profited from the Xbox since 2008

Can you provide some proof of that, not that I don't believe you.

This would surely change the landscape and I bet a lot of unhappy people would be popping up on the forums. I'm not so sure Microsoft would be interested unless the price was right.

It wouldn't be funny as that is exactly what they should be doing. What is funny however is how slow Sony is in adding key features. It really is quite comical.

Basically it boils down to this,

Visuals and effects are better on the PS4 due to 4x MSAA (compared to 2x on the X1), motion blur and shadowing.

Performance is better on the X1, steadier frame rates and no torn frames.

They prefer the PS4 version still, which has become quite common due to the beefier hardware.

@NextLevel,

Your making it sound like the PS4 is far more superior than it really is. So stop tryi...

It is business and always will be business. What I guess people are wondering is how many of those that used to get upset over this practice are now just shrugging it off because it's now on the system they prefer or are they just as upset about it now as they were back then?

That's an empty commented that adds nothing to the discussion. So by your reasoning the Vita would not exist either. Obviously EA, Ubisoft and Activision see the PC as still a viable platform and they are pretty much the largest game publishers out there. It is all based on consumer demand but one thing consoles have is the marketing behind it.

You also have to credit the PC for this huge rise and interest in indie games being the primary focus now on consoles.

If it didn't get much attention would Sony have credited consumers?

Your edited comments,
"It's one thing to go out and buy a great PC and play great games with it, it's another to go into a console forum or article and constantly try to berate people for choosing consoles over PCs that cost thousands of dollars more."

People shouldn't berate anyone for what they buy. It's all a personal choice and we are very fortunate that we can scale our needs to what we want. Nothing wrong with handhelds, consoles or eve...

1. First off we need to get away this notion that any high end PC rig is $3,000. It's like, "let's put in a really high figure to make my point even more dramatic". Pure exaggeration. Most people are likely to spend on average $800-$1,200 for a high end PC gaming rig.

2. Most people don't upgrade very often either. At least not the major components. Good CPU's and GPU's can last for several years without the need to upgrade.
