Some are speculating that Sony took down the PSN and PS Store site to fix a exploit where jailbreakers could get free PSN content through the PS3 browser website discovered today. Similar to what happened with Microsoft and their point system recently.

Then why would you expect the PS3 steamwork server to be up and running if you had the game earlier than when you were suppose to have it? I mean the servers for Portal 2 weren't live till the 19th...
People from the forums I go to are seriously pissed and fed up with Anonymous, especially here. I think they should just stop their operation or boycott personally. I know alot of us go at it alot with which console is better than who's, but the PS3 community has my support (I would want support if Anonymous were after MS and Xbox Live).

@ EYE True, guy did that back in Chicago not too long ago. The funny part was that he actually got away with a couple of thousands lol.

I think Sony would definitely have to tell you if credentials were compromised in this recent public response or the next, but I am glad that I use gift cards and psn cards to buy stuff online or from the PSN when stuff like this happens.
