@Tyler
The quests are just something to follow while the real fun and adventure unfolds around that mission. None of the fun I had was directly caused by just catching a chicken. It was the random encounters with real people, stopping and exploring a sunken ship and fighting off sharks, and just messing around with my crew.
@Rachel
That's why there is matchmaking. I have had a ton of fun with rando's.
Same here. High reviews or low. it's hard to convince me you're reviewing this NOT based on the beta if you dind't even get passed the initiation quests in the final game. It's all about reaching that Pirate Legend status and then Captain Legend, so if you haven't seen what that exactly is then how are you giving an accurate score of the longevity and such?
Yeah sounds like a glitch with the instance. Hopefully they have some patches and such lined up, but i know they were having some server issues yesterday.
With how frequently they updated the Alpha tests I'm not too worried about Rare's dedication and transparency.
Ha, that's awesome! I keep sailing riiiiiight over... Doh!
Or those insisting on sailing alone fornthe whole game instead of playing how it was meant to be played... with people.
What? Wasn't NMS also $60?
You cash in various items for gold to then buy cosmetics...
@stuna
The problem with this logic is that, Rare multiple times said there is more once you get to be a pirate legend and THEN and Captain Legend.
The sites pumping out reviews based on the beta and the little bit they played of the final game seem unlikely that they made it that far to experience any of that other stuff.
I'm loving it also. A lot of fun with a friend or 2. Still quite a bit I haven't done yet though.
I knew this game was going to get review scores all over the board. Some people just won't like the open ended, make your own adventure games.
The draw for me to keep coming back is the fun of the game with friends. Tonight we are going to tackle a skeleton fort and do some PvP.
I still want to try and board an enemy ship by launching out of a cannon. Couple of my friends haven't ran into the Kraken either.
You know this practice isn't exclusive to MS, right?
So you know the cost and playtime for each item? Please enlighten us.
Actually they said in a interview with Famitsu that they are looking into some cosmetic DLC that doesn't effect any stats.

Except for Halo 5 and Gears 4, right? You could also use any company in that statement and it would work.
"Free" and "Sony" rarely go hand-in-hand.
Free" and "Nintendo" rarely go hand-in-hand.
So do you not play any games that have MT's?
So why doesn't State of Decay 2 have MT's? I'm sure Ori 2 won't have any either.
@PS5
Or the whole purpose of online-only games is to have a persistent online world where you can run into other players at any given time who can become friend or foe.
Just because it isn't your style of game doesn't mean its only there to serve MT's...
Indeed, they have something good here and as long as they support the game with good and meaningful content after launch then it can avoid being another Destiny.
One of the rare few good JRPG exclusives for Xbox, back when they had more support. I need to go back and play this again.
"Sea of Thieves tosses conventional progression systems to the sharks and instead banks on players discovering that the real treasure is not in chests, but in the unique experiences they create and encounter through happenstance"
I am one of the players that has found and had amazing times outside of the quests. The quests are there so you explore, the real fun comes from the randomness.
I haven't once captured a chicken and felt exhilaratio...
