Yep, which is another reason digital downloads will eventually take over (maybe as not the only option, but the main). Physical media is not permanent. Disks have about a 10 year life span. Hard drives have about a 15 year span (disk platters). Ill be a sad panda when I am not able to pop in some of my old PS1 games and not have them play despite lack of scratches and such.

Plus it is the only way game companies can really fight against the loss of profit from used game marke...

I personally agree but unfortunately, I wouldn't argue that point.

The game industry will end up like the music industry and where the movie industry is heading. Digital media is the future (unfortunately).

There is something exciting about knowing that when you wake up in the morning, your game will be available and you can just hop up, turn on, and download. Companies will probably do what Steam does where you pre-install the game before it comes out so...

Cell is specifically designed to do certain types of operations. These operations are geared toward heavy number crunching. What is good for one thing, isn't for others. Cell wouldn't run as well as you would expect in a PC.

The Dreamcast had a head start of a year and the PS2 knocked it out so fast, SEGA got out of the hardware business. One year head start isn't the save all end all. You have to deliver to keep that lead.

The only reason the PS3 has cought up and shrunk that lead so much is because of how well the new Sony advertising has been lately, the drop in console price, and the amazing exclusives that have been coming out. Sony has not slouched the past 2 years. But neither has Micr...

Why would they make a MMORPG lead on a console? The majority of people who played XI played on PC. The majority of people who play XIV will play on PC. Their main competition is a PC only game. If they led on the PS3, it would probably lead to a sub par PC port which would leave the majority of its market not interested.

video ram is different than regular ram. You have to make special code on the PS3 to offload tasks to the spu's in order to take advantage of the video ram. While I feel both consoles could handle it, more time needs to be put into the PS3 version in order to compensate and have the game run just as well, thus the delay.

"Crystal Tools is a game engine created by Japan-based RPG developer company, Square Enix, for in-house use. Originally titled, "White Engine", it was renamed in the development process of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It has been built specifically to create seventh generation games. It was originally planned to be used with the Playstation 2, when it was swapped to the PS3. Tetsuya Nomura, a well known employee of Square Enix, has stated 'Swapping from...

Making it exclusive doesn't automatically make it good. Making it good, makes the game good.

The mom and pop game store I worked at got bought out by gamestop, then shut down. Does that count?

I would like to note that I love steam, just a thought about what would happen to the tons of games I bought from them if they ever shut down.

What happens when valve shuts down steam though. Do we actually own these games?

I spent 100$ on 22 games during their summer sales. I'd say it's good.

Some of them included metro 2033, bioshock 2, gta4 plus expansions, tropica 3, 2 copies of left 4 dead 2, 2 copies of borderlands, max Payne 1 & 2, portal, their 3, defcom, shatter, darwinia, multiwinia, world of goo, and that puzzle game that looks like a silent film braid with pie plus a few more I can't remember.

I do want to say I hate when I have to run a game with st...

Awesome. Hopefully that means easier to program for. Good relationships with the devs is only good.

Are you the average consumer that Sony is hoping to nab? I would think you and anyone else here would describe themselves as more intelligent than the average consumer.

Me, my wife, and two friends just bought the 4 pack for 7.50$ a person. We are all gonna hit the game up this week. Did the same for left 4 dead 2 earlier this week. Lots of fun.

Part of what makes MMo's popular on the pc is the ability to use mods, the flexibility of communication, and robust tools made available all from the same machine.

In wow, there are guilds what won't even let you run stuff with them unless you meet the requirements for specific mods installed. That way everyone is on the same page in the fight. Also, with the constant massive updates, consoles would have a difficult time keeping up. 360 has no guarantee of a large siz...

Not really a problem. You now have 2 million people with the hardware for the game. When DJ hero 2 hits, you can probably count on at least half of those people purchasing just the software which nets big profits for the devs/publisher.
