The little system that could. Never, ever underestimate the power of the casual gaming crowd.
Good job, Nintendo.
313 comments as of this writing. Wow.
Nothing like an article like this to stir things up.
Now, imagine what will happen once the Halo 3 reviews start rolling in...
Ken Kutaragi: "it looks pretty, but lack of creativity will kill a game quicker than building a game based on a movie"
Very good point. As I've said a hundred times, graphics and eye candy will only take you so far. Quality gameplay is eternal.
We'll see when the game is released. A few reviews do not tell the whole story.
Very informative article. I have buddies who work for GameStop who tell the same stories.
Speaking from personal experience:
WoW fans are generally pretty reasonable, although they were like crack whores when it came to the release of Burning Crusade. I was offered six different bribes, ranging from $10 to $75, to sell it early. (Nope).
I personally love the moms who come in looking for WoW subscription cards, wondering why their kids can't be col...
Not surprising. This will be their direct competitor for the Wii. It's also rumored to have an HDMI port, which seems to have (finally) become the standard for the 360.
A 256MB card, tho, doesn't address a potential future problem: The likelihood that 360 games will require a hard drive.
Note to MS: Release this, then drop the 20 GB HD price to something much more reasonable, like $50 or less.
As a 360 owner, I can say that achievements are crack for gamers. They're that addictive.
In simplest terms:
Enjoy the games you want on the system of your choice.
Everything else is fanboy rhetoric.
Best. Multiplatform lineup. EVER.
All of us gamers are going to be SERIOUSLY broke...
...and SERIOUSLY happy.
Great.
Now the format war--already complicated, frustrating, and confusing--gets even more screwy.
Just #$@*&^% great.
With the Paramount-HD exclusivity deal now complicating things, this is going to get messy.
I think it will end up alienating far more consumers than it will win over to either side.
Part of me wishes this to end very quickly, regardless of who wins, rather than prolong it any further at the expense of retailers, consumers, and the industry as a whole.
Cool.
I'll be playing it on my friend's PS3--he's pretty stoked about it; he's also chomping at the bit to play BioShock on my 360.
Still out before Christmas. That's good.
Gives me more time to enjoy Halo 3 and BioShock before immersing myself in Mass Effect.
Wow, three disagrees just for speculating.
Fable, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Morrowind...
"wait, I think I just listed all of the decent Xbox RPG's right there..."
Um, don't forget Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2. Both were better than average RPGs. Also, Dungeons and Dragons Heroes wasn't bad, even if it was too short.
As for all of this BS from Meus about "Yet another Xbox site drooling over PlayStation format titles..." Well...think about it.
Sony may h...
Can't wait!
BTW, unless MS ponies up some serious dough, expect this on the PS3 at some point, though it may start as a timed exclusive for the 360. Tecmo knows that there's plenty of money to be made from this franchise.
Halo?!?
GoldenEye?!?
Quake?!?
Any of those should have made the list before FEAR.
Honorable mention: Serious Sam.
Don't flame me:
But is it possible that despite all the hype, Lair--which I have stated many, many times is a title I would LOVE to have on my 360--just isn't very good?
It has happened to games before: Not living up to the hype. It will happen again.
Agree? Disagree? Rational replies would be appreciated.
How will the success of the Wii influence future console design?
I don't think the next gen will see a downgrade in graphics, because people like the HD graphical prowess of the 360 and PS3.
The success of the Wii is not based on its horsepower (barely XBox 1 level) but rather its appeal to the casual gaming crowd. (The same with the DS, for that matter).
Nintendo has ably stepped in where the PS2 left off: A wide range of games, user-friendly, w...
teh sux haxzorzzzzz P2P IM...wtf? LOL.
You know what?
I could care less about comparisons.
I get to enjoy both games, plus many others this holiday.
Win/win.
