While RE4 may have started the behind the shoulder view and more ammo phase, you could still see Resident Evil somewhere in there. It was still creepy and eerie, and you still had the restricted movement that made encounters harder. Dead Space proved that you could still do survival horror right with these elements. So I don't necessarily blame RE4 for the direction the franchise has gone in.

They said they were going to be putting Diablo 3 on the next gen consoles a long time ago.
Capcom needs to take a 5 or 6 year hiatus from this franchise, then knock down the doors like gangbusters with an all new reboot.
Make it like the REmake of the first RE on gamecube. It would be huge.
