Yeah. I hate how poisoned the discourse around its art style has become thanks to a bunch of *****s, but I wasn't digging it since the first trailer. From the facial proportions to some of the backgrounds, it just looks cheap.
If you've paid attention to what they've about since their resurrection, this is anything but a surprise. A shame to those who've lost gainful employment (of course), but this was destined to be a precarious setup from the start.
-"I didnt even object to your review."
I think you're acting a bit skittish to my response. I know what you meant and thought it was a fair clarification.
-"There are a multitude of reviews on either side of the spectrum for this one."
Well... true to an extent. There's more positive reviews than negative. What I mean by 'score island' is those instances where I might literally be alone in just how...
That's fair. You can peg me to my own 'score island' compared to almost everyone else. But critics tend to leverage so much praise to crucial aspects while ignoring key issues. I don't see how South measures anywhere close to Edith Finch (for example).
Pretty much. I guess it comes back to what you're after. Because, even by TellTale games standards, this gameplay feels so flat and you're so disengaged. There will be disagreements about the story. I *kinda* get the appeal of its dual storyline and how they bleed in together, but what's going on just isn't that interesting.
I still need to get around to Bugsnax and that bit of info is tempting me to put it higher on my backlog list.
100%
I place The Cannery up there as an all-timer in level design.
It's funny how the stars aligned for that one.
Seems like Sam Barlow has another hit on his hands. Congrats to him.
Kinda anticipated a lower score from them for As Dusk Falls. Still willing to give it an honest shot.
That's a fair positive, but part of me still hoped their misdeeds would've bit them on the ass in a more damaging way.
This attitude is why I'm not a big fan of the MS/Acti deal: you're essentially rewarding repulsive higher-ups with golden parachutes versus absorbing talent like the inXile/Obsidian deals.

1.) Scorn could've been announced in 2005 and announced for Game Pass in 2016, the point still stands. There's no official game dev's code that demands super-old projects have to announce their length years in advance or anything. That also doesn't make such because, like *MOST* teams making a game, they're hashing out what content to trim that's not coming together throughout much of its development. Maybe a one-off mechanic isn't wor...

This relates back to my principles argument. I've basically been the go-to Qt3 submitter since the mid-2010s or so. They meet N4G's submission threshold (as well as Metacritic's) and I believe in this aggregate site being a go-to hub for a vast array of opinions, whether they go with or against the grain.
Really, the majority of my "defenses" in that comment section were about me not being Tom Chick and seeing the value in...

I was there back then and glanced through some of the older articles again. You don't have a vast array of examples that contradict my point nor this title. They talk big about Xbox Series' CPU/SSD and emphasize "next-gen" talks, but that's pretty much expected for hype in general.
Newsflash: games tend to be shown at numerous events if they haven't released yet. That's the whole nature of hype. But that very first...

You don't know what hypocrisy means. As far as defending low review scores against PS games, it's most often in the context of hearing that reviewer out instead of acting like a whiny man-child when someone gives your hyped exclusive anything below a 8/10. Maintaining that principle =/= uncritically agreeing with the conclusions. You oh so conveniently leaving out the part where my responses are simply challenging the laughable insecurities of others.

It's kinda hard to grapple with how overzealous you're acting here. Having a sustained hype (from delays) doesn't mean everyone expected production values akin to a huge blockbuster or some grand 30+ hour odyssey. Nothing from its ads nor the average fan here (note: not the convenient strawman you're thinking of) fooled everyone into thinking of something it's not. It's been available for pre-order at $40 for a couple months now.
It's also rea...
Given some of the comments above, it's more like "keep your expectations grounded in reality." Some of these are seem absolutely insane.
What's sad is how long these stories of failure of been around the SW game franchise:
-Post-Prequel Era of Lucasarts was a mess of department heads quitting and leaving some of their best SW ideas on the cutting room floor.
-EA Era being a more colossal failure than I ever anticipated
Now, Disney's just trying to find suitable homes wherever they can.
I'll admit I'm really tempted to get this.
Decided to the roll the dice on the Deluxe Edition. Something about being one of those middle-market titles flying under the radar has me intrigued.
