I'm not sure about SWAT 3, but your other two examples aren't really a counter-argument to what Arturo stated.
Homeworld received GOTY awards from multiple publications and The Longest Journey shows PC Gamer's awards on the box. It's literally to the right of the girl's face on the box.
Indeed. Because why wait for end of year awards to be given out before declaring a GOTY edition for your game? Then again, multiple publications are too impatient to even wait until January before nominating their runners.
In short: it's all your fault, Lost. [-_-]~
"You gotta factor in Quarter to Three and a few troll reviews for sure!"
That's harsh, man.
Edit: Say what you will about his Halo 4 review and how that translates on metacritic, but I'll take that kind of reasonable severity (Chick hated the game, didn't think it was broken) over that IGN reviewer's unchecked praise of it.
"Best Halo game yet?" Were you on methadone while playing it, McCaffery?
If it's a "beta impressions" opinion piece, then yes. Dozens of those littered last year before Destiny's release.
But in its current form, not with a score + label as review.
One thing to keep in mind: there's a difference between a general rule and a universal one. What you quoted doesn't suggest Legion's painting "all of society," as you put it. Just that it's not exclusive to this particular industry.
In other words: select people across all of society (regardless of industry).
^
Indeed. Haha, that's a pretty good skit.
@spartanlemur
"If it was illness alone..."
Fire didn't suggest it was the illness alone, but also the general games aspect of stressing her out; essentially filling in the other stated reasons by her that you conveniently disregarded.
If you can't even refute your opponent's actual argument but instead have to challenge one he didn't make (in such a short comment too), there's little reason to suspect your analys...
You typically reserve the "was" for when they've passed away. :P
She still wants to be involved in music to some other capacity.
As much as I was disappointed with it, the music was the highlight of Dear Esther.
"The whole "publisher" trouble is odd considering The Chinese Room have previously called Sony a fantastic partner and a tough act to follow: https://twitter.com/Chinese...
Pretty much the norm for a developer to heap praise on the publisher directly financing its creative work.
Around the end of this month is when it usually comes.
@suckingeggs
"A collection of three games that have won over 400 Awards Now with better textures, higher resolution and better frame rate and 7.6 is a 'good score' according to cool beans ESPECIALLY for a remaster...."
First, can we please cut the crap with using how many GOTY awards something gets in this industry as if it's some kind of trump card, especially when considering said people awarding them were your typical games journos? O...
What are you talking about? It's still a solid score, especially for a remaster.
It is. I could use a hug right about now. :'(
Congrats to winners. If you'll excuse me...

I don't know, but it's getting really annoying. Whatever publishing policy's in place for this occasion has to be dealt with promptly.
Wasn't even close to starting this trend and technically not AAA to begin with. The only $60 price point it had was with a bundled Bluetooth headset. The downloadable version was $30 (non-sale) at launch.
"I hear nothing but great things about game."
Really? No complaints about the dialogue in some parts? :P
Still a really enjoyable series though.
The trailer's really just a glued-together bunch of scenes from first game, but the reminder's enough to still get me excited. :D
Team Fortress 2, certain Counter-Strike titles, popular MOBA's and MMO's, and certain Halo titles?
They keep a decent amount of people coming back.
Judging by this response and agree/disagree, it seems to me like some people are just arguing past each other on this. When Arturo and others (me included) are eye-rolling about this it's not (or shouldn't be) considered as a dig against THE GAME. It's about the precedent; that we're at the point when games can just announce a Game of the Year Edition before GOTY Awards across...well...any publications have even started the nomination process.
Granted, GOTY ...
