If you take out the grinding (which isn't such a big part of JRPGs today) FFVII isn't actually that long of a game, so i think they would need to have some more content to justify a modern rpg length without grinding.
In other words, theyd have a hard enough time making a single 60 dollar FFVII package, forget about multiple ones.
I've been saying this for a while too.
Lets not even start with the ps2's first year. Gta III and Devil May Cry literally invented new genres, right off the bat. Ico and Silent Hill 2 pushed games as an art form through unique gameplay and emotional story telling. Jak and Daxter introduced a massive open world with no load times. I dont think he intends the comparison on the level of shock or backlash, just the boredom. And i agree in that respect, the pacing just felt bad and it felt kind of bloated. If it was 1 hour long and trimmed some filler out it probably would've felt better.
It was like watching a really long Nintendo direct, there's those BAM moments and then just mountains of crap in between.

It seems impossible to make such a good 360 emulator unless they planned it from the get-go. But at the same time the xbone and 360 have totally different architecture between PowerPC and X86 so it couldn't have been easy.

The PS4 plays dvds, so i dont see why it wouldnt be able to detect PS2 games which exist on that format. Like the xbone, all it would have to do is detect what game it is to allow you to download the emulated version.

I think the Wii U's proprietary format can only hold 25GB's, and rather than pay for every disc to be dual-layered (if thats even possible) they just put it on the eshop.

Yeah, but no one likes Nintendos pricing. Just because someone does something worse doesn't suddenly make the pricing okay. Dark Cloud is a good deal, but that's it.
People are probably complaining because they want to play PS2 games, they just dont want to pay more than the physical copy is going for in the bargain bin.

Some people on n4g have a lot of problems with the way Iwata ran Nintendo (myself included, at times). First off your own link says it didnt sell .6 on 360. Second, since when do we trust VGChartz? It was estimated at 1.4 by a reputable source (industrygamers) damn near 5 years ago, you think it hasnt sold anything since then?
Polygon said the first game sold 3.2 million earlier this year. Also since the article was posted on 4/20 we can assume they were a little slow on the data, and its at 3.3 by now.

Technically this idea goes way back to stuff like the RAM pack on N64 and those power packs for the Saturn.
This seems more like an essential part of the NX, and it's almost certain it would have to be packaged with it for their to be any success.
The problem is the gamecube wasn't popular. Its what prompted to go the direction they did with the Wii and Wii U. And now the Wii U is prompting them to go somewhere new too, but i doubt it will be back to the Gamecube. Then they'd just be chasing their tail.
For all the people saying Nintendo should make a powerful console at an affordable price with hardcore games and new IP's... where were you when the GameCube sold a paltry 21 million?

I jumped the gun and disagreed with you but in the context of Summons75's comment you are right.
I like my Wii U, but it is a fact that it has a very poor sales performance. People mistake decent weekly numbers for Wii U with decent numbers in general. You guys aren't doing anything by pretending it sells well.
Doesn't make it bad by any means though, it just lacks mass market appeal like the other two consoles have.

I can't believe you're comparing one of the most expensive games in history made by a team of hundreds to a niche JRPG made by a team of around 80.
This is why we can't have middle market games, all the morons will come out of the woodwork to complain it doesn't look as good as their bloated AAA games.
Well for them to go with the PowerPC architecture again would not be smart, since the other two consoles have x86.
As much as i would like Wii U BC i can't see it happening since the Wii U is PowerPC and the local streaming tech is expensive to produce.
