I certainly agree that 'eventually' we will see a ps3 price cut.
The problem is, Sony has been losing $3-4 billion on the ps3 thus far.
With their cost reduction, they have finally arrived at slim profit margins or at least break even.
Thus, at $399 we can expect them to recoup, over time, some of the tremendous monies that have so far been expended in securing third place.
However, if Sony drops the price again, this will set them back to 2007, wh...
well that's one way to spin it...
but another way is:
The PS3 is still 8 million units behind and getting worse daily, despite:
- purportedly being cheaper/better value when all things are considered.
- doubling as a cheap bluray player
- having the benefit of the outstanding brand recognition precedent of playstation2.
We can't logically dismiss the significance of the above ps3 advantages, yet the sales are still not up to par....
Hmmm.... well apart from the obvious fanboy headline, the gist of the article was:
- 360 ahead by 8 million, confirmed.
- 360 outsold ps3 by 33333 units every month last quarter, the worst quarter for the year.
- Before that, 360 outsold ps3 by much more.
How is this good news for the ps3, which ironically is still selling at a loss and also contributed to Sony's $390 million loss?
