It makes me wonder why it is considered ok for the ps2 to launch a year ahead of the xbox1 then?

Investors, by arbitrage (bid/ask, supply demand) are the ONLY people who determine the price of shares/stocks.
The fact that the share price has dropped is a true indication of investor sentiment.

Actually, you are right.
Those games HAVE been done before on the wii.
The difference is, Natal does it MUCH better and involves people completely, not via a silly hand held dongle.

It strikes me as a very optimistic forecast to see the ps3 fat (most recently) still being sold at a confirmed loss (at $399!), but then, magically, the slim is supposed to be SO cost reduced that it will make a profit even with a $100 price cut...

Yeah wow.. there is a lot of damage control to excuse the fact that last week the 360 doubled the ps3 numbers.
While the 'clearing of ps3 channels' argument may be valid, it does NOT explain why the 360 has sold DOUBLE what it normally sells.

As Mgs pointed out, even Kaz Hirai has acknowledged that they make losses on ps3 hardware.
Do you honestly believe that the slim is able to overcome the ps3 fat loss-margin, as well as the loss from the $100 pricedrop?

In the end I'll be happy to buy the best content which is available on the 360, bar about 3-4 games, which look great on ps3.
well thom, to be honest, i have seen NOTHING on ps3 that blows the 360 'out of the water'.
Last time I checked on metacritic, the 360 still has vastly more titles rated at 70+, 80+ and 90+.
Add to that the 360 exclusives, which, in no uncertain terms, are quite excellent.
and as for "if multiplatform games are all it has going for it"... did you forget that multiplats make up 95% of all games released on both platforms?
