I agree they went wrong with the rrod.
Had they got that right, they indeed might be near the wii in terms of sales. That $1 billion in rrod losses didn't help either, although it is a far cry from the $5 billion that Sony has lost on the ps3 so far.

Why not take it back to the shop and get a one-for-one exchange?
Failing that, why not look at the positive:
you get a 3 year warranty with your 'old elite' console - the new one only has a year!
Personally, I prefer the non-glossy, curved shape of the old elite.
Either way, both consoles play the same games and usability is exactly...

5 years ago, the tech wasn't available to put both gpu and cpu on the same package, efficiently.
This has allowed the redesign, with less heat, less power draw, less fan noise and increased reliability.

The casual market doesn't know what a 'Hdd' is.
All they care about is the price, the looks, the games and what's popular with their friends.
Making a purchase based on the specifications of Hdd capacity is what informed gamers do (read:geeks) - not casuals.

Yes, a 199 ps3 with 120 gb hdd, with controller, with bluray, with all the bells and whistles WOULD kill anything.
Unfortunately, that price would also kill any chance Sony has on recouping the $5 billion lost on the ps3 so far.
