Yes, I don't think it'll do too well in the mainstream. It already has a really strong cult following in the fighting game scene, which might be enough to keep it afloat, but I can't see anyone without a hardcore interest in 2D fighting games being interested.
Apples/oranges etc.
Uh, Hollywood has been trying make movies emulate video games for the past 5 years (maybe longer) and doing a piss poor job of it. It's games that should be snubbing Hollywood.
This is a photograph that always pops up when people try to disarm art as legitimate, and then call it "pretentious" or "pointless". The reason this is art is not because it's a messy bed, but because it's showing a defined point of view of the messy bed. It's stupid and bad art, I agree, but I feel like using it as an argument against art is a cop out. I'm not trying to pick on you or single you out, it's just something that always comes up and it'...
Yo don't count Molyneux out yet... I'm sure he can dumb it down more if he really tried.
Well, keep in mind GameSpot is not an autonomous entity. Same goes for IGN or any other big publication. Sometimes, things are going to be uneven. My complaint is why is there only one review per game? If you have tons of experienced reviewers (I wouldn't call them critics) for your publication (which GameSpot does) why does only one voice represent the entire company? This whole "open and shut case" mentality for game journalism is really annoying and amateurish.
Me too. I remember playing it the day it came out. How is it possible that was 10 years ago? Wizards?
It's true that they add a sense of tension but the tension is fake and the controls are archaic. They can update them without ruining the atmosphere, it's called intelligent game design.
I detested XII when it came out. I just felt like the story was so dry (not just because it starts in a desert!), I couldn't get into it. I never got a hang of the combat either. However, now that I'm older (and hopefully wiser), looking at screenshots and videos makes me think I would love it now. Perhaps it's time to revisit it!
What do you expect from a guy named "Queefy_B"?
I want The Last of Us and The Last Guardian to succeed soooo badly.
Video games are still in their infancy artistically. The medium is naturally going to take much longer than cinema to develop because it's more challenging to work with and the budgets required to take risks tends to be unfavorable with publishers. Video games are a great medium though and should be judged on their own terms, especially because of the hurdles they face in comparison to other mediums (not to imply they don't have their benefits, I wouldn't play them if they didnt!)...
Note the date everyone: January 3rd. Earliest GOTY confirmation ever?
Great review. KOF13 is a fighting game masterpiece, easily the best to release this generation imho. Anyone who loves 2D fighting games should go out and support this!
First of all, no one lives in a vacuum. You aren't free from influence; whether by the media, your friends, family, or idols. Secondly, being interested in someone's opinion doesn't indicate a need for guidance or lack of self-confidence. People respect Jaffe, people want to know how Jaffe thinks or feels about the video game industry. Go figure.
Yo, am I the only one who thinks New Vegas is one of the best RPGs this generation? :| The only one I liked better is Demon's Souls... Maybe Dark Souls, but I haven't finished that yet.
"Zelda's getting stale, Nintendo milks everything!"
"You mean you're actually innovating the series? RIOTS IN THE STREETS!"
Fun game. Tons of replay value and for $5 it's a steal.
The DS games are really weak imo. Not unplayable but soulless and bland.
No.
It's a good game though.
