I hear you man. I gotta believe with this reemergence of fighting game popularity, Microsoft has got to be priming up a reboot or SOMETHING... it would be so stupid for them not to. The money in the tournament scene is getting huge and fighting game culture is even featured on television (through G4). How can MS resist that kind of marketing possibility? It would be great for everyone involved.
I bet you hated the 90s.
On topic: personally, not a huge Soul Calibur fan, but this steady stream of fighting games is really exciting and I hope the fans are pleased.
Totally agree. I went in as a skeptic and MK won me over. So much content and it's just a blast to play. I was surprised NetherRealm didn't try to ape SSF4 beyond a few (necessary) things, so its a wonderful contribution to the new era of fighting games. In my opinion, you're doing yourself (and the fighting game community) a disservice by not at least trying this game!
I would've taken a direct port with 3D. This is just phenomenal.
Silent Hill 2 is always my go-to answer for the "what video games are art and why" question. Silent Hill 2 on the surface level contains elements of surrealism and symbolism. Thematically, it deals with mature themes like suicide, guilt, depression, child abuse, and sexuality. This alone (to me) makes it and interesting candidate as an "art game", but your question below about interaction as an art form and your definition that art is a catalyst for constructed emotional r...
I agree. I disagree with the article's argument about why video games should not strive to be art. Ethically, I agree... video games shouldn't strive to be like OTHER forms of art, it needs to find its own voice. Even though video games have been around for 40+ years, I still don't think they're even close to blooming into their full potential as an artform. We're in the infancy stages still and that's a good thing, that's exciting. Applying other standards of art ...
I don't know much about disc formats, but the first thing that popped into my head when reading about the "new format" was some kind of piracy prevention test. Would be really nice (and smart on their end) if they can update the system to use a new variation of the DVD.
Silent Hill 2 definitely deserves a mention... that's one of those games where if the soundtrack were removed, it'd be like a completely different game. Akira Yamaoka is a genius.
Um.. why? Some people find them legitimately useful. The fact that there are trophies for completing them really bothers you that much? Really?
Good idea on Rockstar's part. This film is actually available on Netflix Instant service. Those who wish to explore film noir before L.A. Noir comes out should give these films a try as well: Sunset Blvd, Chinatown, The Big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, Touch of Evil, The Third Man, White Heat, Double Indemnity, The Night of the Hunter, and The Asphalt Jungle. Surely inspiration from many of these will be evident in L.A. Noir.
Majora's Mask 3DS would be great. MM has such a rich world of side quests, it would be excellent if they could expand upon it with the features of the 3DS.
Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown.
I wish I had your faith in people.

I believe in Mike "Mike Ross" Ross.
I'd just like to interject that balance issues don't always kill off a game. Marvel vs Capcom 2 is one of the most broken, imbalanced games ever made and it had (and might still have) one of the longest histories of competitive gaming that I know of.
Many people (including myself) actually like the idea of a broken, over the top game. Sentinel is nowhere close to how broken he was in MvC2, but I'd be lying if I didn't say he was overpowered. Personally, I don&...

Give it up for Microsoft: sending back the video game industry two decades in 90 minutes. Every time I think video games are getting closer to being respected as an art form, something like this happens. Is it even worth trying to defend this kind of stuff anymore? Microsoft basically just parodied the entire industry.
