...if I wanted to play an interactive movie with more cut scenes and b-grade dialog than actual gameplay then I'd buy a PS3 to play this. Give me splinter cell anyday.
Besides, if all the talk is to be believed then this would have to come out on 4 DVDs...mind you, if they cut out all the cut scenes it would easily fit onto a DVD. Maybe what they'll release on the 360 is the (dire) card game version of MGS that was released on the PSP...
...Rallycross may = bumper cars but there is not enough physics going on there when cars hit each other. Its like the cars have very little weight.
Also, take another look at the reflections...do you see other cars in the reflections? do you see the actual roadside objects being reflected? Look at when the car passes under the signage just after starting the race...nothing, not even a shadow on the car as it passes underneath it.
Rallisport Challenge 2 on the ...
...reflections in the car were naff and didn't even reflect the environment. Also felt more like I was watching bumper cars rather than fully kitted rally cars belting round a track.
Hope the final product looks way better!
...the visuals look impressive and in HD they should be mind blowing...except for the seemingly endless use of repeated texture maps.
However, the gameplay was pretty naff. Not saying it won't be fun but fly into a head, destroy a target and let a pre-animated sequence get you out. Hell, Starfox (or was it Star-wing?) on the Super Nintendo offered a similar gameplay experience. Where the hell is the next-gen gameplay to go with those next gen visuals. I have the same compla...
...was on the PS2. This looks brilliant and I cant wait to play it on my 360. Heck, how far are those draw distances!
Only complaints are that the ground targets (tanks, ships, etc) lack any real detail and don't look as though they are interacting with the environment, i.e. no tracks from the tanks or wake from the ships. Oh yes, the explosions in this game have always looked a little naff - that does not look set to change with the latest version.
...this story. It has nothing to do with gaming what so ever. Can we now start to expect links to every DVD or HD movie review because consoles can playback movies?
...another yawn inducing FPS. Is it just me or has anyone else seen enough environments with square/rectangular rooms with angled stairways. Whats the point, really I mean if its not going to be on par or better with Gears of War, which by the way is over half a year old, then whats the point. The game in this video looks like it should have been released 6 or, 7 years ago.
...they are labeled epic due to the scale of the movie and the cast of thousands that appear on-screen. The environments rendered in this game seem huge and each is plush with enemy, ships, dragons, etc. Looking at this game I am reminded of the huge battle in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King....which was epic. I could easily see how this game could seem epic however, no doubt whether or not it feels epic will come down to each gamers own personal experience with the game.
...a truly next gen game. Even if the story is not next gen (just look at Gears of War) the graphics, sound and visual scale of the game is what this gen is supposed be all about. I am sick of seeing next-gen games that appear as nothing more than higher-res versions of previous gen games (Forza 2 anyone?).
I'm a 360 owner and so far the only thing that has knocked my socks off on the 360 is the aforementioned Gears. Thats not to say the 360 is not capable of producing more ...
...Sony's sales pitch that you're getting a lot of technology for your buck has fallen of deaf ears. Most (I repeat, most) consumers probably regard it as an expensive device for playing games and all the crap about Blu-Ray playback, being able to run Linux, blah, blah, blah, amounts to nothing.
Plain and simple, Sony needs to drop the price so its cheaper than the Xbox 360. The PS2 was always cheaper than the original Xbox so that made the choice easier for last-gen consumer...
...both games still feature:
- Average particle effects (why does smoke continue to dissipate like steam)
- Ridiculous animatronic spectators.
- No real-time weather or lighting effects.
- Neither are photo realistic...actually wait, maybe if were talking about a VGA cellphone camera then yes, they are both photo realistic.
If Sony can get final GT:HD product to look just as good but with 20+ more cars on the track then I would pick GT:HD to ...
...how many general consumers who have been put off buying a PS3 because they are not sure which HD format is going to win the war. I mean, if only the Blu-Ray standard existed, would more consumers have jumped onto the PS3 band wagon as they wanted an inexpensive HD option for movie playback?
...is no AAA title. Just look at the combined reviews from all the leading gaming sites - it averages in the low 80s where a AAA should average in the 90's.
However, what I will say about Mortorstorm is that for a first generation game on the PS3 it looks incredible. May not be the deepest of game experiences but it certainly packs in some great fun. In all honesty if the PS3 had been $400 (NZ) cheaper I would have purchased one to play Motorstorm. However, the PS3 in NZ is...
...his g/f (or wife). Who the hell would want a kid with this lamer! I'll bet this guy is a real pride and joy in her eyes let alone his daughters LOL.
Not sure if its a real letter or not - don't care really. But was Crackdown really bad? I did not buy it as I didn't want the Halo 3 beta. I'm happy waiting for the real deal.
...this is why the shoot-em-up genre has all but died. The only thing positive about this game is that it provides an example of what a good shoot-em-up shouldn't be. What was their mandate for creating the game? to use XNA to create the most sterile gaming experience ever?
Even though this game was free (paying for it would have been criminal) I doubt this will be gracing my HDD for long at all.
...all you Sony fanboys (above). Its like watching a baby spit its dummy and having a good ole hissy fit.
Thanks for that. Impressive list of next-gen enhancements but how many will appeal to those who are actually buying PS3s at the moment. Slimline PS2 kicked ass because of party games like Singstar, Eye-Toy and Buzz and also because it was affordable!
A lot of the features you mentioned would appeal mainly (not solely) to the younger gamer. So, how many of these younger gamers are going to be able to afford the PS3 to play next-gen Singstar? Apart from the additional music, ...
Yes, I do have a 360 and yes I have downloaded and played the demo for Forza 2. What did I think of it:
Pros:
+ Handling
+ 60fps
+ Improved racing/braking line
Cons:
- The cars look like plastic models
- no real time weather or lighting effects
- the hood of the car features jaggies when viewing from in-car
- the reflections in the cars feature pop-up
- cars don't show in reflections
- spectators per...
...actually own Burnout: Takedown on the PS2 but only played it a total of 3 or 4 hours (got sick of the loading times!). I actually preferred Rallisport Challenge 2 on my Xbox - still the best arcade racer I have played. That featured some damage modeling but courses and weather effects made it much more fun. Right now I'm still having fun with PGR3.
As for damage modeling. If you're going to provide the ability to crash a car in a game then at least make the pieces that f...
...all the people that responded to the survey that experienced problems that would equal 100%. Wow, the 360 has a 100% failure rate. Or lets look at it this way. Out of the 11,000,000+ 360 owners only 2,315 have experienced problems!
MS will need to release official figures before any of us will really know. I'm thinking it will be within the 10-20% region (which is still quite high) and not 60%.
Apart from flaming another debate this was another pointless...
