...did Screwjumper get 7/10????? Thats the kind of digial junk that should bbe used only to test download speed performance, not to actually play.
...when the PS3 first hit NZ it was $1,399. Within a year its already dropped to $799. I am so happy I did not spend so much for it to drop so quick in price.
...market share either format has right now. I'm waiting for digital distribution. The longer these two formats try outdoing the other the wider the door will open for digital distribution.
...Warhawk looks like fun (reminds me of the type of fun I had playing Wings on the Amiga 500 in the early 90's) however, I dare say the PC holds the current claim to fame for the best on-line gamer at the moment in Warcraft.
Consoles are still in their infancy with regards to on-line gaming however, Warhawk is a huge step in the right direction. I just wish we could get some unbiased comments rather than the fanboy inspired dribble you seem to like serving up.
Before I address your points, digital distribution is already here to some degree and it will by no means replace all disc media (i.e. CD, DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray), it will co-exist with it.
Now, addressing your points...
1. Rubbish. People download a sh*t load of data now on much slower speeds. They just realise that they have to set it going overnight or during the day whilst they're at work. I dare say developed countries should be looking at sustained spee...
...my update has gone without a hitch.
...was average. Only great for those who:
- wanted Divx support
- live in a country where media marketplace actually features cool content
- has the 120GB hard drive for downloading original Xbox games, the standard 20GB drive (of which only 13.1GB is usable when you buy it) just aint gonna cut it...although, why would you bother as they are blinking expensive!
Come on Microsoft, where is all the fantastic media content in Video Marketplace?!?
...the update inspired a yawn only...
I have downloaded and restarted my console and the changes, whilst evident, don't equate to much at all if you live in New Zealand. Sure you now get the opportunity to download original Xbox games but who would want to? They cost too much and they take up a huge amount of space on the pultry 20GB (of which only 13.1GB is usable) HDD.
We don't get any type of desirable media in our neck of the woods. As for streaming media ...
...like some simple screenshots of a decent looking game, add fanboys from both sides and what do you get?
A bunch of f**king crap. If you removed all the fanboy sh*t from this posting then you'd probably have 10 comments.
I'm still waiting to see some big open environments and not the same level from different angles. The lighting, whilst good, still needs improving as too many shots don't show character shadows.
Gears of War is still a landmark...
...seems to be Divx support, especially for me anyway as the Classic Xbox games are not worth it and we don't have any type of movie marketplace in New Zealand as yet.
Also, there seem to be a couple of things listed that we already have. "Y" button to toggle full screen visualizer for instance.
I was really hoping for a big surprise like a web browser...
...of things, games consoles don't really matter all that much.
...can see now why it was delayed so long. You have to be kidding...this is it?!?
This really is disappointing.
...this story does not reveal anything new re: the dashboard update that we have not already read.
However if this is all thats coming in the December update then big deal. The original Xbox games are overpriced and offer no reason to buy them. Video Marketplace in New Zealand is still a pipe dream and probably will be for another couple of years.
I was hoping for the rumored web browser and the ability to increase the number of your friends from the current m...
...is a good experience on all platforms. I personally think the PS3 version will offer a different experience over the 360. However, the "mods" side of things does not appeal to me at all but I can see why it may for some.
This probably won't be a "must buy" for me as UT has always been a PC franchise that I have not followed for years.
FInally, if PS3 owners are getting hard ons over having this on the PS3 then does that mean they have lef...
...fanboy.
Its people like you that have been making me hold off on getting a PS3. I would hate my Son to start behaving like you and the rest of the Sony fanboy clan.
...send their developers onto the streets to start busking or begging. They might have more success...
...the making of video must just show a bunch of people sitting around looking inept. Or maybe 7 developers looking over the shoulder of another developer who's doing all the work.
Actually, 4th time is a charm for Sony...maybe. Betamax, Mini-Disc, UMD were all flops. In fact, Mini-Disc almost single handedly ended Sony's reign in the personal audio player (walkman) space and opened the door wide open for Apple to walk on in.
Keep a watchful eye on the big Paramount titles (i.e. Star Trek and Indiana Jones come to mind) if they are not being released in the next 12 months then you know they'll ditch HD-DVD in favor of BD.
@beoulve - very tr...
Amazing how many time PS3 fanboys keep referring to the RROD syndrome. Its almost like listening to a broken record.
Anyway, the 360 deal in NZ is incredible at this stage. You get the premium console for $649 N(NZD) and it comes with 3 games (Forza 2, Viva Pinata and Skate). The PS3 on the other hand is $799 (NZD) and comes with Need for Speed Pro Street.
Both are good deals (not great deals).
@below...I'm not a fanboy and have never commented on ...
...replay value as Spiderman 3 or Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Average is average regardless of the number of pixels.
Me, I'm not going near either format until there is but one and I don't see that happening untill all movie studios are backing one or the other.
