...I only just started playing this game a week ago and have to say its one of the best looking games on a console I have ever seen. It matches (and sometimes surpasses) the visual prowess of Gears of War (yes, I have played GOW as I also own a 360) and its what Halo 3 should have been. That is, if Halo 3 had looked as good as Uncharted then nobody would have been disappointed with Halo 3's visuals.

The dynamic lighting in Uncharted is sublime and so it the way the jungle env...

...HL2 was dull and extremely linear. Vehicle controls were also what I'd expect from a cheap knock off of a HL game.

HL2:E1 and E2 were ok and got better as you went but was any of it as ground breaking as the original HL...in my opinion no.

Team Fortress 2 just didn't do it for me as after experiencing the much more realistic COD4 TF2 just felt like something that should have been released 3-4 years ago.

Portal, whilst fun seemed like something ...

...Haze will be relegated to the bargin bin before too long. It needed to be a stellar AAA title to make an impact so soon after GTAIV and so soon before MGS4.

From what I have seen and read it looks like an ok title but nothing that convinces me to go out and buy it.

...but has anyone played both Halo 3 (360) and Uncharted (PS3)?

Although Halo 3 was no slouch in the visuals department, after playing Uncharted for the first time recently I can honestly say that if Halo 3 had looked like Uncharted then no one would have been making any noises about it not quite living up to expectation in terms of graphics.

...you're right. Thats why only those who were gaming from yester year can enjoy a game like oblivion or BioShock.

You don't have to have been alive during the 80's to enjoy a game based in that period. To me the game looks great and very family friendly.

...you for real?????

These images don't look anywhere near as good as COD4 multiplayer and thats been out over half a year. SOCOM gameplay must rock because these screenshots sure don't.

Also, hate the way in New Zealand there is a slightly different list of menu options than the US store. Finally, why does it not list file sizes before you start downloading????

...that is without a doubt the best opening to a game I have ever seen.

I have been gaming since around 1982 and that video was without a doubt the most incredible opening sequence to a game I have ever seen. The in-game graphics appear incredible, the msuic, the atosphere....wow.

This is a release day purchase for me.

Gears 2 looks fantastic and will continue the high standards set by the original. Killzone 2 looks to be in a league of its own if they can up the resolution of close-up textures and beef up the AI.

As for resistance 2, it looks heaps better than the original (which wasn't all that bad) but I have not seen anything yet that puts it in the same class as Gears 2 and Killzone 2. However, R2 is a potential killer title for different reasons...

...does anyone actually have a link to another source that does discuss the differences between the two versions? Were their claims valid in that the 360 version actually looks better than the mis-used PS3 footage?

Publishers want the best reviews possible to fuel the hype and help sell their product, which in most cases has cost tens of millions to develop. Gaming sites want that exclusive first review to get as much traffic and subsequent advertising dollars as possible. If you're going to give a totally honest review that will potentially burst a games hype bubble, then chances are the reviewer will get snubbed by the publisher.

You see similar practices with the movie industry excep...

...the 360 still has a significant attach rate which I would have thought was extremely important in determining if a console was successful or not. You can sell 50,000,000 consoles but that does not mean it will be a huge success as the real money is in software sales. Obviously selling 50,000,000 consoles is a great thing however as it increases the chances of a game turning a profit for all involved – even the crappy ones like Turok and Transformers

To me the 360 has been ...

Oh yes, at least it has real on-line play - unlike what they tried to do with DiRT.

...they would make player names translucent during game play. Its one of the worst things about COD4 - you're trying to take aim but with 4 or 5 players in front of you all you see is a mess of player names.

Sorry, I have never played SOCOM but its looking fantastic and will warrant a first time look from me.

In the context of previous Rare titles, that is, when they were producing games for Nintendo, 1.2 million copies is nothing. One of the reasons MS purchased Rare was to garner some of that success for the 360 and as yet, it has not been anything more than a luke warm success.

I played and loved Viva Pinata, my kids also loved it. I for one can not understand why MS did not hype it up a hell of a lot more than they did.

Oh, by the way. I was not comparing Viva ...

...but still needs a lot more work to make it feel a little less sterile and alive. The 360 really needs a great family game like this but it needs to make sure its a AAA title. So far its looking promising however, like others have said above these shots still don't look as good as Ratchet and Clank on the PS3.

Will be interesting to see how well a game like this sells on the 360 since Rare's Viva Pinata, an excellent title, was met with only luke warm success.

...is setting a new standard in console visuals, much like Gears of War did on the 360. However, the AI needs a lot of work to make this a next gen game. If you were to take away the stunning visuals and replace them with those from the original Killzone you'd still be saying the AI is naff.

Lets all hope that this game lives up to the hype that continues to build.

...don't do the game justice. regardless which camp you belong to, Gears of War 2 will look fantastic and probably be a hell of a lot of fun to play - just like the first one.

I don't care if it does not look as good as Killzone 2 or not as both look like terrific games that deserve to be played by all!
