Yes, you read that correctly. But if you've been following XIV at all, you'd know that the new development team recently issued a player questionnaire that mentioned "radical changes" to the game and whether or not that would be welcomed. (I said "yes")
I have played the game, and it is lovely to look at but a chore to play. They can fix the "chore" part (the mechanics, which I already mentioned in my first post) and keep the assets, I&...
I'm not sure where people get off thinking that Blizzard are some noble developers who wouldn't sell their talents to the highest bidder. Talented, heck yeah. But you have only to look at WoW, which is the most successful, money-milking machine in the industry (next to Cityville) and realize that ethics don't mean much. They have perfected the milking of their customers, it's almost an art form. They have legions of subscribers and from a design standpoint do whatever they wa...
I'll wait for the GOTY edition, thanks.
This is exactly why I prefer MMOs. One set fee, play as much as you want, constant updates and content, stop paying when you want.
Star Wars, Guild Wars 2, DCUO, FFXIV; I could spend $90 on each of those ($60 game price + 1 month free + 2 months at $15/ each) and have 12 months of gaming (each MMO for 3 months) for $360. If I get really hooked on one, and only played that plus whatever PS+ or indie games I want ...
Even Square. I'll give it a go with the 30 days free subscription if/ when it launches on PS3 though. If they reinvent the mechanics enough, it might not suck. The visuals and story are sumptuous, it's the GAMEPLAY that's atrocious.
has throttled the ever-bloating system requirements that I (as a PC gamer) was used to. Since this gen started, I've changed GPUs ONCE. In 5 years. That's a record in my 18 years of PC diddling.
PC elitists complain about consoles throttling graphics, but graphics have mostly hit a ceiling anyway. Sure, there will always be prettier and shinier textures and rendering techniques, but there's something to be said for games that don't require a supercomputer t...
how we sit here on N4G bickering over the minutae of console existence - core, casual, shipped, sold - while games like this are spreading over the world like a plague.
That was perhaps a negative sounding analogy, but it wasn't meant to be. Things are changing, for certain. I'm not sure how it will all pan out, but the market is definitely in a state of flux.
He can't help himself. His career as an underwear model didn't pan out. Turns out the media don't fancy hobbits.
Everything else happens at 30. I have no idea how you've "seen it all" when the cap is 20 in beta.
I frequently praise Lost Odyssey as one of the greatest JRPGs this gen (360 exclusive). As a consumer, we can, and should be critical of companies, as they are NOT our friends. I recently commented on the lack of security over PSN due to the hack. Just because everything I say isn't rosy and wonderful for MS, that doesn't mean I'm bitter. Are they successful? Of course. How does that benefit me and my needs as a consumer? That's what we should all be asking next.

but you don't have a PS3 and you seem to loathe all things Sony, so you wouldn't pay for this anyway.
There's also a huge disconnect with a vast majority of console gamers who simply don't grasp the concept of an MMO. First off, the initial month is free. Second, if you have a good MMO, you don't play ANYTHING else. At all. It sucks you right in to the point where you don't have time to balance work/ life/ gaming AND other games. Gaming monogamy a...
Mmkay Vega. Whose dupe account is this btw? (created 20 days ago) Zir0s?
I congratulated MS on their "awesome landmark". Reading is fun.
I'd expect the Kinect split to be the same, if not closer to 4/5 on account of the 500 million dollar campaign.
As a side "lol", I'd also like to point out that MS just announced 50 million 360s sold to consumers: "xbox owners world-wide" and quote. So, that awesome landmark aside VGCs has them at having SOLD 51.2. They're selling product they don't even have! Incredible! /sarcasm off
Can we seriously stop posting VCGs # n...
Yeah, the virus potential is a bit annoying. I don't use my PS3 for anything save closed-network, authorized services (PSN, Netflix, Games). We can stream YouTube and such right off the t.v., thankfully. Still it's a bit scary. Wonder if the phising mails will start. People don't realize how easily information can be obtained, and just how many digital signatures we leave lying around.
We've been over this once before. The hackers themselves (failoverflow) stated this in the BBC interview. New hardware will be impervious to this hack. Of the 46 million or so remaining PS3s, I highly doubt that more than a small % of people will risk banning and not playing their games online to make use of this exploit.
You seem to have an issue with accepting the facts when they don't suit whatever crazy-town agenda you're running with.
You should be doing specialty porn if we were talking something else. You'd make a killing!
So I would assume that they can track firmware mods through online use, but they're reluctant to say "how" (for obvious reasons). Could be as simple as a checksum (I'm not a programmer, so any input on this would be excellent). So good luck with trophies or multi-player games then, should you chose to use CFW. I guess you could play on pirate servers, but really, who wants to play cheat fests?
I hope that everyone who mods their console, especially via ...
Quote: However, according to pytey, it may not be so easy to fix the problem this time.
"The only way to fix this is to issue new hardware," he said. "Sony will have to accept this."
So once they issue new hardware, the exploit is fixed. This is according to the team who hacked it in the first place! Where is the breakdown in comprehension?
I love how people are running around as if this is the end of the world. The 360...
where the failoverflow people said that once Sony releases a new SKU, all this custom firmware becomes irrelevant. It's not forward compatible on future models.
Pretty sure we'll see a new SKU in like 1 month, tops. Not even an upgrade, just a stealthy change of the product #.
Let's not get into a system-wars debate over why (could be disc size, could also be laziness, a desire to release content twice - for double the cash - or release date pressure), but his is a bit of a blow to the consumer.
You all know that the system sold between 3 and 4 million in December in the US alone? (according to Nintendo's internal estimates)
I'm not a fan of the Wii, but it's hardly been a failure. Certainly not a commercial failure, and when something is THAT successful, even if it doesn't have the games we might like, is it a failure at all? They saw a different market and went for it. And made a killing. In the end that's what matters (not to me, but to the...
