To your second point, nobody bought a Wii U, how could they resell something that was never bought in the first place. It's like saying that Ride to Hell: Retribution is probably a much better title than GTA V; I can find GTA everywhere but I can't get my hand on a used copies of Ride to Hell.
Wii U is to Nintendo what Millenium was to Windows, almost nobody wants it.
They're already ditching features on it like TVii, so I also doubt they'll support it once NX is here.

Seriously...they tried a whole lot but in the end it didn't work. Ubisoft advertised this console as being great and all, but at some point when you try to convince people that the Wii U release is on par with PS3/360 and it's not even true and then you enter the next gen and you have to sell that the Wii U release is not that bad, then it's the Wii situation all over again.

First, it needs to be really good because PS4 owners will have heard all the reviews from sites and their X1 friends. Even then it's all about what's been released around it, would I want the brand spanking new game or a year old game? I would go with the new game and buy TR once it's like 20$.
That's what I did with Garden Warfare and it was only a 6 months time exclusivity.
Most of their sales of the reboot came from the PS consoles, so my thoughts are their want to make sure the PS owners are not that pissed off.

I bought Rage day one. The previews sold me on the graphics, loved how it was an ID Software product and what looked like a Borderlands distant cousin.
I think I ended up liking it, but I swear I can not remember a minute of play of this game. That's never happened to me, so to me the game was probably ultra generic without any particular flavor.
