Sony were first to reveal their next gen plans. They revealed the name, rough release window, specs, new controller and even showed actual next gen games. All this before MS has even confirmed they are working on a new console officially. How is this not beating them to the punch?

The vast majority of us have personally experienced what happens when a console manufacturer rushes to market and nobody wants a repeat of that.

I think MS should take a deep breath, accept that Sony may have beaten them to the punch on this occasion, then concentrate on bringing us the beat games machine they can in a sensible time frame.

I was in two minds whether to approve this but if opinions with titles like 'PS4: Too little too early' can be approved then I don't know why this particular opinion can't.

I guess being privy to some kind of confirmation of a rumour would be akin to peeking into the box, so to speak. This would collapse the wave function into a specific outcome. In the more philosophical line of thought the rumour would still be in a state of simultaneous fact and fiction to anyone else who wasn't 'in the know'.

He's right that women make up a large percentage of the core market these days but I get the impression he means it in more of a 'business' sense. Like the fact there are millions of women playing games like farmville so that will become their target audience.

However when I said women make up a lot of the core I meant women who are just as likely to play the next COD and Assassins Creed as the stereotypical 10-25 year old boy.

Yeah because all fans of a particular console think as one hive mind when one speaks they speak for all. It's that kind of generalisation that says more about you than anything else.

If I have somehow contradicted something someone else may have said earlier it does not make me a hypocrite.

Back on topic, you have to admit MS have a challenge ahead and don't worry I'm not saying they can't rise to it, just so you don't take offence.

It's definitely a 'rock and a hard place' situation for MS. They can't just leave it until E3 because all multiplatform reveals up until then will have the PS4 logo on them and no 720. They also can't reveal too much to try and top Sony's reveal as there won't be anything left for E3.

Can't wait to see this unravel but I wouldn't want to work at MS right now they have a high bar to jump. I mean, if the rumoured specs are true and the 720 ...

That's either a joke or you have very little knowledge of what the share button actually does, it's hard to tell since, you know, it wasn't funny.

I thoroughly agree with the writer and, in all honesty, I'm still a little shocked that MS hasn't done one single thing to try and steal some of the hype.

Besides a couple of snarky comments about Sony not showing the actual console, MS has been deathly silent. They either have something very special lined up and are overly confident of their success or Sony actually caught them off-guard and they're just not prepared enough to respond.

I disagree, they are VERY important in the early years of a console launch for obvious reasons. All 3 console manufacturers have first-party development studios working on games for next generation to distinguish their console from the competition.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure, you could be right, all I know for certain is that a lot of downloaded HD movies and TV are in the MKV format. I'll just go google it and update this comment...
