Give me a break! If you play the game, you will know it's a 9 or 10 ... easy.
No. HD DVD has a 40% and growing market share.
PS3 has a 15% and declining market share.
We are a culture that likes to slow down and look at the car accident on the side of the road.
When Sony’s Playstation, the video game champ for over 10 years, only has a 15% and declining market share in North America, it makes for a good story.
I have never seen anything like this for a game launch. The positive press Xbox is getting is worth millions in advertising dollars alone.
Things have shifted. Analysts that once predicted Blu-ray to win are suddenly not so sure.
"if Blu-ray fails to offer a viable hardware model at the $250 price point by Christmas 2007 and doesn't employ more aggressive promotional tactics to counter HD DVD's recent momentum, it could open itself to a possible upset defeat at the hands of HD DVD"
Just picked mine up from Best Buy and they only had a few left.
They moved the stack of PS3s to the back of the store to make room for additional Halo displays. They still had elites and Halo 3 consoles for sale, but they were sold out of the $350 standard model.
Just wait, Sony has a secret weapon coming out for PS3 next year. It’s a special feature in the controller that rumbles according to what’s happening on screen.. it’s going to blow everyone away…
What? That’s been in every game system since 1996? Oh… never mind…
That is Blu-ray's strategy alright, keep trying to grab the headlines to take the focus away from the fact that HD DVD is a better product at a better price. Thankfully, the public isn't buying the hype, look at these recent poll results:
NPD (09/2007): 29% aware of HD DVD, just 20% had heard of Blu-ray Disc
DMW Daily (09/2007): 34% believe in HD DVD, 27% percent Blu-ray
Techspot (09/2007): Plan to buy: 28.2% HD DVD vs. 20.1% Blu-ray
...
It’s funny to see all of these Blu-ray stories appearing on this site today. I guess Sony fans realize there is no possible way PS3 will ever beat Xbox, so they better focus on beating HD DVD where the situation is slightly better for Sony.
Rush Hour 3 a "great title"??? Give me a break...
Yahoo! Critics Reviews Average Grade: C
Internal HD DVD drive SKU?
A lower-priced unit?
Plug and play with Vista PCs & Xbox?
It is believed that Sony paid target $50 million for the end-caps and additional shelf-space.
The last thing Sony wants is the consumer choosing between Blu-ray and HD DVD. Why? Because HD DVD does everything Blu-ray can do (1080p, lossless audio) and more (web features, PiP) and it costs less.
Old news. Wal-mart has already said they are going to carry the name brand Toshiba HD DVD players. They don’t carry every Blu-ray model from every manufacturer either.
Wal-Mart merchandise spokeswoman Melissa O’Brien said. “We will continue to offer the best values on popular HD DVD and Blu-ray products from leading consumer brands like Sony, Samsung, Philips, Toshiba and RCA.”
I know the Xbox started a year earlier, but I’m not talking about past sales, the Xbox and Wii are STILL doubling PS3 in monthly sales. All I’m saying is while the Blu-ray drive is nice, the extra cost is a big factor in the PS3 being in 3rd place.
Blu-ray is a nice feature in PS3 and I wish Microsoft would have included HD DVD in the 360 Elite.
But the fact is that PS3 has a 15% and declining next-gen market share in the US. EA has already said they are going to focus on the 360 first. And if the rumors are true, Sony is about to do a 2nd price cut in a matter of months, selling off other divisions to do so.
So, while it’s nice that there is a Blu-ray drive in the PS3, the extra cost it adds is probably th...
Must be a slow news day...
What would you expect the Blu-ray group to say? Of course they are not happy about this!
Don’t forget that the movie ‘300’ will be included with every new Toshiba HD DVD player… and that does count as a sale for Warner Bros.
The title of this story is totally wrong. It's one title (Hairspray) that will be released with additional web features only on HD DVD (like Blood Diamond) and released a few months later because of HD DVD’s lack of regional coding and the fact the movie has a late release in Europe.
I can confirm this.. I lost my saved game. It let me start from the most recently completed chapter, but I lost about 45 minutes of work...
