"we can now, categorically, finally rule out any next-gen pretensions for the Wii U"
GPU is based on AMD's RV770 series. Circa 2008. Approx 1.5x raw shader power of 360's GPU.
System memory of 2GB (Only 1GB available to games) has a total bandwidth of only 12.8 GB/s. PS3/360 are both...
You guys are really grasping for straws if you take meaning from a statement with no frame of reference or direct comparison to other hardware. What is his idea of "what most people think"? And given his development history of exclusively Nintendo systems, he's only really comparing hardware to previous Nintendo systems. Yeah no shit the Wii U is significantly more powerful than the Wii. But just like the Wii was, it's not even close to what we should expect out of a modern ...
I got one through the Kickstarter pledge. It's a neat little device but honestly pretty useless. I expected a lot more existing Android apps/games to be compatible out of the gate and there's barely anything up.
Just the fact that they've stated PS4 won't require internet means used games will work. The only way to limit used games is to tie games to a user account like Microsoft is doing. How do you control that without an online connection?
MS bought a bunch of JRPG exclusives for 360 and it did absolutely nothing. I just assume they're going to give up Japan entirely now.
Microsoft is probably going to have a hard time retaining 1/3 market share in the US let alone the rest of the world. Japan should be last on their list when PS4 is dominating Europe and has majority in US.
I just assumed they meant virtual servers. Which makes the entire statement of 300,000 servers a BS marketing line to deceive laymen.
They've been giving the finger to PC gamers since 2001. Now what does the other hand look like Xbox fans?
I wouldn't put it past them trying it. It would obviously never happen right now due to backlash. But people Microsoft's stated goal is to dominate the livingroom. If they have a gigantic user base and monopoly with content publishers, whats's to stop them from forcing it down our throats later?
Imo Microsoft needs to be shut down HARD at the start of this generation and hopefully they'll drop the arrogance and redeem themselves like Sony did over PS3's l...
Well they easily circumvent that legally by selling us "licenses" instead of an actual game copy. The only hope is Sony remaining consumer friendly and enough consumer backlash to make Microsoft give it up.
But honestly the problem isn't really used games so much as the closed nature of consoles. PC gaming is thriving with digital distribution. The difference there is the prices are actually competitive. I don't mind buying games at Steam sale prices withou...
Ok. It's just hard to tell genuine ignorance vs console war speak. Just bothers me when people act like fps is a magic number to achieve and not a complex balance of fully utilizing the hardware while keeping the game playable. Anyone tweaking settings on a PC game should know the fundamental concept.
This is a good example for the idiom "grasping at straws".
I must admit there is probably great potential in this for server based online gaming. And yet XBL pioneered going cheap with laggy peer to peer multiplayer. And their closed system monopoly attitude has kept out MMO type games that may actually benefit.
I've got a lot more faith in Sony's history of dedicated servers and openness to 3rd parties than Microsoft's pipe dream.
The fact that you phrased it like that means you're not a PC gamer or have any idea what you're talking about.
It's the entire direction Microsoft is taking Xbox that people are having a problem with. Kinect and TV functions are the centerpiece. Completely anti-consumer policies on used games. Aside from Halo/Gears/Forza, 360 pretty much dried up completely on core gamer exclusives a long time ago. What makes you think that will change now?
So now PS4 has an advantage in every area of a game console that matters most. Most 1st party game studios by far. More powerful hardware. Mor...
Sounds like an amazing pipe dream.
But I could see this technology maybe helping in online multiplayer, where server side calculations can make a big difference.
Edit: Oh yeah first time I read this - "The system will also have an external power brick to make it easier for a single design to deal with power needs from different countries". Seriously? Even designing it as a plain big ugly box they're still using another god damned external powe...
No it needs to get a slow and painful start to give Microsoft a wake-up call to turn things around. MS and Sony have essentially traded places from the start of last generation and it's their turn to be smacked down for arrogance.
"A lot of people have grown up playing games on their PC, but haven't graduated to consoles as they get older because it just doesn't interest."
I find this insulting.
Since today a console means a PC in a box with a hard drive, then yes there should be as much extra functionality as possible. But that should all be secondary to gaming.
Sony is producing a gaming centered platform and backs it up with a solid base of 1st party development studios. Microsoft has barely made any effort to grow 1st party development and has made gaming a secondary function in a fancy cable box.
Just don't buy the thing near launch and ma...
That's what happened with the original Xbox.
Well honestly I'm ready for at least some same old with a new coat of paint on it.
