My guess is they release a cheaper model with no disc drive that gets people willing to accept those policies.
Considering they both use the same hardware architecture you can sure bet PS4 multiplats will look better. All the assets will be the same obviously. But it doesn't take much effort to crank up anti-aliasing or other post processing effects. They may not bother in the rush to get the first wave of games out, but eventually there will be a clear fidelity and/or framerate advantage.
Funny how aside from the latest Halo and Gears, 360 has been dead in the water for exclusives the last few years. Still gets plenty of games, but considering you can play them elsewhere it's quite apparent which company to go with for the next gen. Same multiplats, yet quality exclusives right up until the next console.
I am primarily a PC gamer. I want consoles to be as powerful as possible because they are the baseline for game developers now. With the Wii U being barely a step above 360/PS3, it will do nothing but hold game design back. It will have some unique titles using the Gamepad and may be an alright system on its own. But the big budget multiplats need to completely dismiss the system if we want to see the full potential realized of modern hardware.
You're right. That would make too much sense.
It doesn't make any difference when the WiiU is getting PS3/360 ports. It makes a difference when developers start designing games from the ground up to be PS4/XB1 games. 8GB of RAM on a bus speed about 6 times faster in addition to a much more powerful CPU/GPU.
Imagine if they'd made the Wii a baseline for Assassin's Creed or GTA4? Nobody wants a next gen with a baseline defined by Nintendo's outdated tech. And considering the Wii sold like crazy and still f...
Well if they want to move systems that's what it's got to be. $199 basic and $249/299 for premiums. Nintendo always refuses to take a hit on hardware costs and this time it's going to bite them by having no user base. Already blew a year lead by lack of games. Now it's either price cut or get ignored even more.
And I doubt $199 is much of a loss any longer. You have got to realize how simple and cheap they went on hardware. I have literally thrown away 2GB st...
One question. Is this going to be Cross-Buy?
I hope not. Don't want Wii U's garbage specs dragging down the real next gen platforms.
It's just about weak enough that there's no way to get PS4/XBO designed games to work even severely downgraded. Requires separate parallel development. That was the Wii's problem with multiplats. 3rd parties abandoned it because it was significant effort to make essentially a whole different game that generated crap sales.
7. Eternal Darkness 2
Shadow of the Eternals? I hope that actually gets made. Looks a long ways off.
Nintendo will remain successful financially as long as their fanbase of zealots keep buying everything they produce without question. It just baffles me how they outright embrace the greed, laziness, and stagnation of Nintendo.
$199 for the Wii U and it'll do as well as the Gamecube. I enjoy Nintendo games. It just annoys me to see them selling overpriced outdated hardware and developing games that take a shoestring budget compared to modern developers. Where's the f...
That's exactly where they need to price it to be competitive with the powerhouse systems. I know I'm not buying one until it inevitably drops. The hardware specs don't justify the price when compared to PS4 and there's a long ways to go in waiting for games to justify it otherwise.
Nintendo decided not to release a modern spec system again so they've doomed the WiiU to be a companion console for most gamers. Now they need to price it as such.
Nope. WiiU is an even more distant third. I'll be happy to get one when they cut the price to reflect actual hardware value. I want to play the primary Nintendo games but I'm not giving them $350 for outdated junk hardware.
I just hope they have Google make them a Chrome browser. Sony would do well allying themselves with tech companies that compete with Microsoft.
Nope. Still my distant second choice. But I'm gonna buy one now at least. Even though I'm thinking 80/20 for play time between PS4/XBO. Mostly because I certainly intend on buying multiplats for the system with superior hardware.
I absolutely understand that. That's the entire reason PC exclusives haven't advanced well past consoles by now. The high end hardware just isn't being utilized. You can run PS3/360 to PC ports on damned near anything now days. The PC version of a PS4/XBO game would have much higher system requirements and I'm looking forward to it. Just gives us a new baseline to scale up from.
Forza, Quantum break, Spark, Dead rising 3, sunset overdrive, Ryse, Titanfall, Crimson dragon.
Okay 8. Games we've actually seen something on and could even be considered "impressive looking". Personally I'd throw out Sunset Overdrive as well. So 7.
About sums it up.
Last year would have been to soon. At least for PS4. I think technology hit the perfect timing right now. GDDR5 prices came down so 8GB is feasible. AMD has just recently got their APUs up to a decent standard. Not to mention PS3 still has tons of top notch exclusives in 2013. The timing just worked out well for technology and game developers to be ready for this next gen to be as great as possible.
360 was their best shot and it utterly failed. Much cheaper over there and they outright bought a bunch of JRPGs. Didn't make any difference. Shouldn't even bother this time. They'll have a hard enough time keeping up with PS4 even in the US.
