Probably not a good move.
Just watching the reaction videos is enough to let you know this is not just a gimmick. It's finally VR done right. They're waiting until the technology is refined for a consumer version and plenty of content is available. I expect that once it finally comes, we'll see a sleek product and support from enough games to easily justify a purchase. The only worry is that we all get VR addiction and refuse to leave.
The Wii didn't just have less horsepower. It had almost no advancement from the Gamecube whatsoever. Still used nearly the same architecture. The Gamecube hit $99 in 2003 and yet the Wii launched at $249 in 2006. That's just outright rip off compared to the loss leader pricing of Microsoft/Sony.
The Gamepad defines gimmick. It's quite apparent Nintendo was going for the same strategy that set off Wiimote gimmick hype. But this time people aren't buying into i...
Don't even give this site hits.
Yeah because having an external drive attached to your Wii U is such a great solution. Just another reason why the system's hardware is awful. PS4 is just an insanely better value.
They're still in the hardware business because of the Wii. Selling what was essentially repackaged Gamecube hardware was very profitable. They tried the overpriced junk hardware+gimmick again with the Wii U and it just isn't working as well.
The "Original" Xbox One. Now that certainly brings to light the confusing nature of the name. My mind went straight to the original Xbox.
That's a completely illogical step. The main reason for going to 4k is that it is 3840x2160. Exactly twice the width and height, and 4 times the pixels. That makes scaling 1080p content so much easier. By the time the consoles after PS4/XB1 come out 4k will be the standard and graphics cards easily capable of rendering at that resolution.
Some PS3 games did have dedicated servers. How do you think games like Resistance and MAG had 40-256 players? And it was free.
Ah okay never mind that happened quickly. Still a couple years off for mainstream sales and native 4k content though. I was thinking more 30" 4k monitors for PC gaming that would actually use the resolution. Those are still in the $5,000 range.
Looking less terrible. Best I can do is $249 Nintendo.
Using the cloud for dedicated server hosting is about the best use you can get. And it's about damned time. Microsoft are ones to blame in the first place for introducing peer to peer hosted matches. 16 player caps and laggy as all hell compared to what dedicated servers were capable of long before XBL. Considering you PAY for XBL just to play this was the ultimate insult to gamers to be so cheap as to not even host game servers. Sorry to bring up very old arguments but all PC gamers know...
I agree. 360 was definitely the superior system up until about 2009. But in the last few years Sony has caught up in features and vastly surpassed 360 in exclusive games. This time the gap in online service will likely be negligible. There's just a lot better track record of Sony delivering exclusive games in the long term.
Everyone likes milk. Just their own flavor.
Really? You sure you just aren't remembering it that way because it was your first cohesive multiplayer experience? I think that's why most people consider Halo 2 a good game. It was more of a well crafted multiplayer experience than legitimately well made game.
From someone who went straight from 10-14 player Halo:CE LAN parties every other weekend into Halo 2 - It was unbalanced garbage. We went right back to Halo LAN. Only became half decent months later after pat...
Getting both at launch. But favor PS4 by a huge margin. XB1 is a worse console by every measure. But I still must own one as a gaming enthusiast to get the couple good looking exclusives. Even though I'll likely buy every multiplat on the more powerful console or PC.
I'd bet money they release a cheaper version with no disc drive in order to begin the process of converting people to digital DRM only. Start with it as an option for those who are willing and slowly push everyone else into it.
This is going to be a really good year in gaming overall. The Last of Us is definitely the winner so far imo. Bioshock Infinite was great but just fell short of greatness in too many areas.
4k gaming... Yeah that is further off from mainstream than 1080p was when PS3/360 launched. Gonna be a few years until prices will be reasonable. It would be nuts to try and make console games supporting that resolution right now. 1080p with good AA and refined post processing effects is a fine place to be for the next 5 years or so.
Yeah we all know PC hardware is already ahead and will only get better. But my GPUs each cost as much as a PS4. Let alone the rest of the syste...
With a big price cut it may do alright. I know I'll get one if it gets to $199/249. But there's going to be so much hype around PS4/XB1 that the Wii U will likely get overshadowed even then. And without a price cut it will get even further ignored with PS4 being such a obvious better value at $399.
