@BlackTar Alan Wake averages 83 on MetaCritic and Death Rally averages 63 there. So how are you extrapolating "great games" to get a Metacritic score of 90+ for Quantum Break??

@FatDrink you really don't understand what dx12 will do. Please don't speak about it again. You are right about engines and optimisations, but that won't take them from 720p to 1080p or from 30 to 60 frames per second.
There will be marginal gains, that is it. Dx12 is NOT a magical bullet.

I think the real question here is why the Xbox fan base aren't buying their own exclusives?
Halo had great initial sales, then what happened?
Halo 5 currently 2.6milion

Even though everyone complained about DriveClub, has Forza 6 passed DC sales?
Forza 800k vs DriveClub 1.8million
Remember that DC is a new IP as well, while Forza is well established. New IPs usually don do ad well as established IPs.

How about comparing rem...

@Murk I have to respectfully disagree. The moment you add another peripheral that needs wearing as well as having a controller it will not last. If it involves standing up or any upright position, it will not last.
Let History be your guide...
0. PS Eye - Camera peripheral. Lots of standing and arm waving. Kids loved it, then got tired of jumping around to enjoy themselves. First time i saw this tech, I believed it would change gaming forever.....I was very very wrong. FAIL! ...

Hololens AR has as much chance of succeeding as a mass market product as the AR Sony released for the PS3? Remember EyePet - https://www.youtube.com/wat... It was niche and never succeeded. Now everyone thinks that by putting something on your head it will somehow mean instant success for AR or even VR.
I'm afraid it won't work that way. The barrier to entry into AR, both from a peripheral perspectiv...

What other purposes would the public buy it for? It is a niche product, so the "masses" won't have a need to buy it, just to have it on their shelves.
Now if you said this is the next best thing in scientific research, also a niche area, then I'd be 100% behind you. Mass market product, no way. See Kinect/Move to learn from history.

With a new IP and Kojima-san behind it. I'm very interested what he can do outside the MGS world.

Great work Sony for grabbing this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Why External HDD when you can swap the actual HD?? which will give you much faster throughput than a USB cable.

Gears will be key to the X1's success next year. Hopefully the devs have done their due diligence in creating something worth looking at and worth playing.
Halo Wars, as an RTS, is a bit niche to have a major impact.

All new IPs are an unknown quantity/quality, so they cannot be counted on to shift customer perception. I mean it would be awesome if they can, because it is a win for gamers, but typically it takes a couple of iterations of a game before it gains a m...

@all I'm not saying Microsoft have *failed*, as they are doing better than last gen, but I am saying that from a purely business perspective they won't invest more in consoles after not coming out on top, 3 generations in a row. Microsoft will still be part of console gaming, but as a publisher, not a hardware vendor.

As I said, the above are just my wild predictions (call me Pachter 2.0 :p) , I know, so time will tell if I'm way off or not.

Greatest line up they said. Everyone wants Backwards Compatibility they said. What's left DX12(won't help) and Windows 10 everywhere (maybe).
Other than Halo 5, everything else hasn't really helped sell X1 consoles or helped Microsoft get a decent foothold in the 2 regions they used to own, namely US/UK, this holiday season.

The only other franchise that might shift consoles, upon its release next year, is Gears . Quantum Break is an unknown franchise so...

Even though I admit to being a massive Sony fan, PSVR will not take off for the same reason 3D didn't. The moment gamers have to put on something to game, it create a barrier to entry. If they could achieve VR without the need to put one a peripheral, I would be 1000% behind it.

There is also the issue where VR makes some people nauseous. I've used both Occulus and Samsung Gear VR and they are undoubtedly amazing technology, but just NOT for gaming.

If The X1 continues to flag behind PS4 sales, in 2 years time Microsoft will go where the money is, which is becoming a 3Rd party publisher. If that happens expect to see Halo, Gears and a lot more AAA Xbox franchises not only on Nintendo but Sony devices, probably the PS5.

3721d ago 2 agree5 disagreeView comment

After 3 generations coming 2nd or 3Rd, I don't believe Microsoft has the staying power to launch a 4th generation machine. If in 2 years, so end of 2017, X1's fortunes haven't changed, Microsoft will cut their losses and abandon consoles and go back to being a software game provider. They want to make money, so expect to see Halo and Gears on the PS5 neXt generation.

Look out for my monthly You Tube vidcast starting at the end of January, talking about all things...

@Kartmart he made no mention of Visual C++ only C++, which is what I replied to. If he had written Visual C++, I wouldn't have had to correct him/her.

Also worth noting that Visual C++ is an IDE and not a *new* language in itself. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/...

C++ was not invented by Microsoft. C# and .Net were invented by them. Please learn the facts!

Maybe the reality is that What Microsoft is offering, consumers don't actually want, as much as you and others think.
If consumers did want what was offered, then the headlines would say "Xbox One dominates November sales!". It really would be that obvious.
