@ShinMaster Agreed.
@aerisbueller I don't think it is Move. I believe in both parts of the 2nd demo it is a real flash light. If they were using Move, it is a lot less impressive because Move gives you all the positional data you need and there would be less of a delay between when he moved the flashlight to when the rendering corrected itself.
@AndrewLB Check your US numbers again. for the last 6 weeks in the US region, the XBox One has ONLY beaten the PS4 for 2 of those last 6 weeks (including 12th of April). Nothing else. Titan Fall's release only accounted for 1, yes just 1, of the weeks that XBox One outsold the PS4 in the US. If you look at a longer period in the US, you will see that the PS4 is even further ahead weeks wise.
The real numbers are out there, if you are not scared to look them up yourself.
@Funtastic1 I love the idea of streamed computations and they would be stupid not to implement it. But just like with YouTube, what will happen once your reach the end of the buffered stream? Does the game come to a complete stop, like Youtube, while it tries to buffer more calculations, or does the game keep going without the calculations? Both terrible gaming scenarios that would pull you out of the game and diminish the game's immersion massively!! If the game scales back and continues...
I love the fact that it "might" get upgraded. So very non-commital. It "might" also get upgraded to 4K!! As a few people have said, a definite ploy to get sales with the non-commital promise of an upgrade. They should put their money where their mouths are and promise to put it in, or STFU about the resolution and let the gamers enjoy it at what ever resolution it plays best at on the Xbox One.
It is a pity that you and your friend don't like indie games. Indie games is where we are most likely to see real innovation in games and their gameplay. The AAA studios rarely come up with anything cutting edge, because from a business perspective, it is too risky and might lose them money. Indies can take the chances that bigger studios can't.
Do re-think your stance on not supporting indies, they are the future of gaming.
@jessupj you missed TowerFall : Ascension from the PS4/PC list. Enjoy - http://youtu.be/pNZfErjKcPY
If price is such an issue, why has the PS3, at a higher price point its whole life, outsold the Xbox 360 world wide?!?!?!?!
Xbox 360 had 1.5 year lead and still managed to blow that lead. Microsoft have just continued that tradation with the Xbox One. How could it go so wrong from starting in a postiion of strenght last gen?!?!?!
Absolute Classic!!
True 4xMSAA is quite expensive, but last gen lots of PS3 game were getting very good AA results using FXAA( http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... and variant of that algorithm. It is less expensive than 4xMSAA and sometimes give better results. So wonder why they didn't go with that.
D.
Other Xbox One users have shown that theirs is no where near as responsive as the demo shown my Major Nelson. So trickery going on there. Sure you can do more, no doubt about that, for now....
Secondly, Sony will not rest on their laurels with Voice Control. When its time to market the PS4 as a media hub, the VC will be there. They will just be enhancing it slowly over the next few years.
This is just the start, greatness awaits ;)
As a software developer and occasional game dev, I know that if I decide to just put in a last minute change/feature a few weeks before release, it may all go swimmingly well, but without enough prolonged testing I won't be sure my code is 100% solid.
Well Mr. Moody, time will tell if I'm being overly cautious or if Microsoft really should employ me ;) Only 3 months until we all know the truth about overheating.
Agreed... testing for "months", compared to their E3 announced specs, which were probably tested for a year... at least.
You really need to qualify what you mean by "better one"?
If we go purely on world wide sales, the PS3 has out sold the Xbox 360 by 600,000 units right now world wide, with that gap set to increase as Microsoft have virtually stopped supporting their console, while Sony continues to release new IPs and games on the PS3.
So just on the above stats alone, the PS3 has beaten the Xbox 360 this gen, as neither PS4 or X1 has been released yet, so the gen...
Pretty much exactly what I just wrote. Not enough time to perform long term QA, to ensure long term reliability.
I find it interesting that most news stories about the X1 these days HAVE to mention that the CPU is now stronger than previously announced. If they are really changing things this late in the release cycle, it means it won't have had a full QA to ensure long term reliability. I hope for Microsoft's sake they haven't made the same mistake they made at the beginning of the X360 life cycle.
@Picnic I think our definitions of artistic are different. I would put Unfinished Swan, Journey in that category and Heavy Rain and Uncharted/Last of Us as good games that are told very well and have a good amount of attention to detail and polish. I have not played Alan Wake, but have heard that is has great pacing and is quite engaging, so I wouldn't put it under artistic, but from what I've heard would say it is a good game.
So please enumerate the games of artistic note that the Xbox 360 has? Have any of them been nominated for game of the year or been critically acclaimed?
@H0RSE : I suppose it depended on how you see each generation. As a sprint or a long distance race? If it was a sprint, then the 360 won it. But, as the console generation lasts 10-12 years, then Sony played their cards to win this gen. I'm not saying Sony couldn't have done better at the start, due to their incredible arrogance, but they did correct course and it would seem they did the right things to now lead the closing years of this gen. Can you honestly see Microsoft correcting ...
This for me is the key to their backtracking, and I have to say so easily.
If they believed in their vision, then have the balls to stick it out. When everyone complained about how hard the PS3 was to develop for, Sony didn't go off and change the underlying architecture when they were 5+ million unit sales behind!! Instead they stuck it out improved things and trusted their 1st Party devs with Titles like Uncharted and God of War to show that they graphics etc were in fact bette...
