Not at all. HD remakes are a beautiful thing. Final Fantasy IV complete and Chrono Trigger on the DS were both fantastic.

What -is- rather boring are HD ports, which is what this article is really about. Leave it to IGN to think that Sony's PS2 ports are remakes.

I honestly don't even understand why it's necessary in the first place. Why can console games only display at a certain resolution? Well, the 3D ones, I mean. Prince of Persia on PS2 can ...

It's not that hard to figure out. After FFX, Square merged with Enix. Then Nobuo Uematsu left.

I disagree. The problem with boss fights is that they break immersion with unexpectedly steep difficulty curves. In Dark Souls, for example, you face a horde of relatively easy monsters, and then get to a boss that's (either also very easy, or) obscenely difficult compared to everything else in the area.

Mario does bosses fairly well, I think (at the "low" end of the spectrum). A typical enemy is killed by jumping on its head. Then you get to the boss and have t...

...I'm not sure how to respond to that without mocking your intelligence.

I never commented on the superiority or inferiority of anything. I merely mentioned that newer is more impressive. If you compare any modern shooter to Doom, or Wolfenstein 3D, you'll notice that one game is clearly more impressive than the other--purely on a visual and mechanical level--and it's always going to be the newer game.

This is because of the technology curve. <...

Very true. Most of the people discussing the ME3 ending seem to have either no clue what the problem was, or are completely incapable of expressing what the problem was.

The two biggest problems were that A) the endings failed to reflect the player's choices in Me1, Me2, or Me3, despite player choice impacting narrative being the central theme of ME's gameplay from day 1; and that all three endings were antithetical to the narrative themes established in all three gam...

Well, yeah. And Final Fantasy 7 is the least impressive 3D FF game.

When developers start working with new technology, unless they're astonishingly incompetent, their later attempts will always outshine their earlier attempts. This is because as human beings practice a given skill, said skill improves.

Given how blindingly obvious this is, I can only assume this article was written in order to capitalize on hits from foolish fanboys' having kneejerk...

All that is necessary for the triumph of stupidity is that we do nothing in the face of it.

I found it disappointing, myself. The art style really does NOT work all that well with 8bit graphics, the exploration aspects of the earlier games (from which came a great deal of the humor) have been toned down to virtual non-existance, and the narrative itself simply does not work.

In the first two games, the player-character assumed the role of the "straight man" in the group. Without a straight-man, much of the humor feels incredibly stale.

My favorite will always be Marcello, from Dragon Quest VIII, if only because in the entire game spun the message that "nobility sucks ass," and he shows up--intelligent, capable, moral--with the intention to abolish the aristocracy. The game really shaped him up to be someone you could root for.

Which makes the ending all the more disappointing (SPOILERS! He was being possessed by the demon god king, and the hero who came from humble origins, surpriselolol, is actua...

At this point, I think the best way to build a better zombie is to stop what your doing for a moment, and then start over with a different monster idea that wasn't a tired cliche two years ago.

N4G is filled with moronic fanboys. Judging someone by their bubble count/ignore list is retarded. If you want to get a sense of a user, examine his or her posting history.

Xof is anything but a troll. He/she is one of the handful of sensible users here, if a bit abrasive.

The simple fact of the matter is that the Playstation Vita doesn't have any games being released this July. This is not an opinion that can be agreed with or disagreed with, it is a fac...

I think it's more that, to many people, matte feels cheaper while gloss feels more expensive. The former feels more plasticky, the latter more like, I dunno, porcelain or something.

Shivering Isles also added a big island to explore. So did the Morrowind expansions.

Here, they just tacked on a few buildings and dungeons into the existing terrain.

So, yeah: not worth it.

You'd think people would get tired of constantly writing these same articles over and over again every time a piece of new gaming hardware launches.

The pros: Casual fans happy with ME3 of the series now have more ammunition to dismiss the many legitimate complaints of those who weren't. Casual fans who weren't happy maybe are happy now.

The cons: Too little too late, does nothing to fix a fundamentally broken game, still antithetical to the core themes established in prior games, extra ending little more than a giant "fuck you" to all of the critics.

I'd totally play my handheld gaming devices in public.

You know, if my 3DS and Vita actually had battery lifes long enough to warrant taking 'em away from an outlet for so long.

...Wait, what? Sony isn't really doing anything new with the Vita. They followed Nintendo's example and added a touch screen and gyro. They followed Nintendo's example and started making obscenely overpriced proprietary peripherals.

Comparing the Vita to Sony's previous offerings (PS3 and PSP), they've removed quite a bit of functionality from the operating system and severely limited what the user can do as a result.

Sony isn't 'l...
